Me and Sen saw one of our favourite patients today. He is also one of our most nervous patients! He has told us many stories of visiting the dentist when he was younger, and also seeing dentists abroad which has made him feel very “jumpy” in the dental chair. It doesnt help that he has very very sensitive teeth! To make his appointment less traumatic for him, he decided to have oral sedation, as we had several fillings to do. We also needed to give him a good scale and polish. He asked me if we could “put a wooly hat on his teeth” as the water and suction was setting of his sensitivity. We have many lotions and potions here to help with this kind of problem, so Sen applied a fluoride varnish to help calm it down. After this, he was fine. He even seemed to be enjoying it at one point.
If you have similar problems or feel anxious about having treatment, then speak to us! We won’t know if you do not tell us. We can then do all we can to help make your visit here at WH a more pleasent one. You could even just pop in for a coffee and a “mooch” around if you want to, before having anything done. Just ask one us. We want to do all we can to keep you smiling

Welcome back Steph!!!! She’s back from New Zealand (all be it a bit jet lagged) and ready to start a new year here with us at WH. She had a fab time visiting friends and family. You can ask her all about her travels and time over-seas when you are next in. We are just waiting for Nick and Sarah to arrive home, and then the whole team will be back as normal.
Some other fab news is that Laura, one of our nurses, is having a baby girl!! She went for her scan and found out the fantastic news this week. I am particularly excited as now I can have someone else to dress up!!! Congratulations Laura xxx

We are still busy here at the practice. Despite the awful weather and roads, our patients have managed to get here for their appointments. Nae saw a lovely lady today who was actually grateful to have spent an hour with us having fillings!!! She is a new mum so she said “the time to herself was wonderful”. I can think of better ways to be spending my time rather than having fillings!! Shopping springs to mind (hee hee).
She had an old amalgam filling that had some decay underneath it. She decided to “pimp her tooth” and go for a white composite filling to replace it. It looked much better afterwards, and you could hardly tell a filling was there at all. Fab job Nae!! If you are interested in having some cosmetic dentistry treatment, or having some old amalgams replaced then please talk to you dentist. If this is at all possible, then our team of dentists here will be happy to help.

Still chilly here in Pangbourne, but we continue to work hard at keeping our patients smiling. Today Sen saw a lovely gentleman who has been having some treatment with us recently. He had a bridge that replaced some missing front teeth, that had been causing him problems for some time. After having his initial dental check up and radiographs, we discovered that the bridge was failing and that something had to be done to replace his missing teeth. After explaining all options, he decided to go for a removable denture. It took several appointments, impressions and fiddling around but we got there eventually. He now has a perfect fitting denture and a smile to be proud of again. Smiles all round here at WH!

Despite all the snow and icy roads in Pangbourne, our loyal patients have managed to make it to us today for their routine hygiene appointments. Helen has been busy scaling and polishing teeth, and making sure all are leaving squeakey clean. The hygienist’s talents don’t end there! They can also give diet advice, apply fluoride solutions, fissure sealants and Oral instructions. Routine appointments with your Hygienist are very important to ensure you maintain good oral hygiene. Did you know poor oral hygiene is linked to diseases such as heart disease?!?
We want to thank all patients that have managed to make it to the practice, and we are pleased all made it here safely xx Widge (Hayley)

I made it everyone!! The snow is crazy in Pangbourne but I managed not to get lost in the knee deep snow on the way here. I just want to let all our patients know that if they have any questions regarding their appointments, or whether their appointments may change or are rearranged because of the weather, then please call me at the practice. If we are not here, then we have a voice mail service in which you may leave a message. If you have dental emergencies there is also an emergency mobile number on the answer machine, in which a dentist will be able to give you advice. If there is any changes to your appointments, myself or a member of the WH Team will call you to let you know. We will do all we can not to cause too much disruption to your appointments.
Keep warm. Keep safe, but more importantly, keep smiling!!!

The kids are back to school (hooray!!) and we are all back to our daily routines. Today Nae has been seeing children and teenagers for their dental exams before they go back to school. She has also been talking to them, and their parents, about sports mouthguards. When taking part in school sports, especially rugby and hockey, the children should be protecting their teeth with a bespoke mouth guard. The dentist will take impressions and send them off to the lab for them to be made. A mouth guard is a great investment for your children, as we have seen many kids that have knocked front teeth out and chipped them due to playings games and sports. This can then result in having extensive treatment, such as Root Canal Therapy, Crowns or Implants.
If you have any questions about sports mouthguards or what to discuss it further with your dentist then please ask us. We want to keep you and the kids smiling
