As the weather is gloomy and we all like a little something to brighten our day, here at WH we are running a special offer on our tooth whitening treatments. Until the end of April there will be £100 discount on the treatments. The home kit and the in house whitening will be available to you at a fantastic price of £299.
Here is a break down of the difference between both treatments………
The home kit involves us taking some impressions of your teeth. These impressions are then sent of to a laboratory and 2 weeks later we have the bleaching trays made to fit your mouth and teeth. They are soft clear trays and will hold the bleaching solution against the tooth surface. The treatment works better if you wear the trays at night, while sleeping, but if you find this difficult, you can wear them during the day.My mum wears them while shes doing the house work! The in house whitening treatment involves you sitting in surgery with a bleach solution on your teeth while a special light shines on them in order to activate the solution. It takes about an hour, and you do get better results if you incorporate this with home bleaching as well.
Tooth whitening is very safe, and is a great way of making yourself feel good. If you have any questions regarding tooth whitening feel free to ask any of the staff at Woodborough House . We have all done it here

We have a poorly nurse in the building today. Our very own Steph is complaining (sorry I mean airing her views) about erosion on her teeth. Erosion is usually seen on the inside surfaces of our front teeth. There are several different factors that contribute towards tooth erosion, and I definately know what is causing Stephs……………………. Fizzy pop!! Erosion is almost always associated with high acidity. Watching what we eat and drink can help reduce tooth erosion dramatically. Often, frequent sipping of carbonated drinks or regular consumption of citrus fruits/drinks can cause tooth loss. Another factor is acid reflux. Regurgitation of stomach acids can cause the tooth to wear, sometimes without the patient being very aware of it. The features of tooth erosion can be a smooth, polished appearance to the tooth, or the shape of the tooth is lost or shallow depressions appear.
We are all guilty of “grazing” on our can of fizzy drink at our desks, and children and teenagers are especially prone to sipping on the fizzy stuff, so please be aware of what you, friends and family are doing simply from drinking. If you can’t break the habit or change routines, good old H2o is great for rinsing out after consuming acidic or fizzy food/drinks. The water helps neutralise the mouth. Sugar free gum is also great for this.
If you want to discuss Tooth erosion with your dentist, Hygienist or one of our nurses then just ask! We are here to help

Today in our lunch hour, we had a rep from Phillips visit us to talk to us about the Sonicare toothbrush range. We like to keep “in the know” at WH so having these regular Continued Professional Development meetings help us keep on track. As professionals, we have to do these CPD hours in order to stay registered with the General Dental Council. There has been a few re-vamps of the Sonicare toothbrush over the years, and although they are more expensive than the other electric toothbrushes on the market, they are definitely worth their weight in gold! I’ve got one, and I wouldn’t be with out it now. There is also a kids range, which is great for those children who are not brushing as they should. It even plays musical notes (its a shame the adult version doesn’as well). The Sonicare toothbrushes are great for those patients with implants, braces, or if they find brushing with a manual toothbrush hard. They are great for those patients who tend to brush hard, as you let the toothbrush do the work. They are also clinically provine to make you teeth whitee. Big wow!!
We have got demo toothbrushes and leaflets if you are interested in them, so please feel free to ask about them. We want to do all we can to keep you smiling.

We have an important announcement to make! Our opening hours will be changing. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, we have worked out a way to make visiting the practice a lot easier. As of April, we will be making some slight changes to our opening hours. We will be here for longer hours, making it easier for our patients to get an appointment with us. We all know how hard it is to escape work, or to fit your dental appointments around the school run, or kids activities, so here at WH we will opening until 6pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We will also have a later evening on a Thursday where we will be open until 8pm, with both a Dentist and Hygienist available for you.
In order to go that extra mile, and to be a cut above the rest, we feel it is necessary and important to make these small changes in order to cater for our patients needs and expectations. We want to keep you all happy with the service you are receiving from WH and most importantly….we want to keep you smiling. Nobody likes change, but we think you will all be happy with this one.
If you are interested in later dental appointments then please make the reception team aware, and we can aim to book appointments at a time that is convenient for you. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative, so please let us know your views and opinions.

Today all the girls were going “ga ga” for our tiny visitor.L’ren, one of our hygienists, came in to see us along with her baby girl. She was very cute! We all had a cuddle. Many of L’rens patients were sad to see her leave last year, especially as she had to leave for maternity leave earlier than planned. Even though she is busy with her two little rascals, she is coming back to Woodborough House to do a day of Hygiene. She will be back in the summer, but the day she will be working has not yet been confirmed. I will keep you all in suspense, and let you know as soon as we do.
If you would like to book a hygiene appointment or would like to know anything about our hygiene appointments here at WH, then please speak to a member of our team.

Many of our patients will remember the days before Sarah and Nick, when they came to visit the previous owner of the practice. We have heard many stories from patients of the “good old days” when he was practicing here, getting them in “the head-lock” and smudging the ladies lipstick. He has a big fan base and they all still talk about him.Well, today, Nick and Steph have been treating his lovely wife. Even for her dental appointments she manages to look super glam and gorgeous! It’s always great to see our friends in for treatment, and it is especially important to us that professionals trust and recommend Nick. Nick and Steph have been working their magic, taking photo’s, and carrying out advanced dentistry, giving the patient the smile and comfort they require. We all want to keep you smiling

One of the big problems, that we quite often see at WH, is patients suffering from decay on root surfaces. We saw one of our lovely patients today, who had this exact problem. The roots of our teeth are more susceptible to decay, as the root surface is much more softer than the enamel covering our teeth. As we age, (and that’s the one thing we all have in common) our gums may start to receed slightly. As the root of the tooth is exposed, plaque and tartar are much more likely to stick to this surface of the tooth. Without regular Hygiene appointments, this plaque and bacteria is hard to remove. Eventually this causes tooth decay. After cleaning the tooth surface, we managed to apply a filling material which releases fluoride. Fluoride is great for our little knashers, and will help reduce the rate of decay in our mouths. He left happy, but only agreed to come back for his dental exam if we agreed to run for his charity. 10k!! We might have to start training for next year.
If you have similar problems, or would like to speak to one of our dentists or hygienist about flouride then please let us know. We want to keep hold of tose pearly whites.

We are all feeling the pinch at the moment, and fixing our teeth may not be the top of our agenda’s, but here at Woodborough House we want to suggest a way to help make things a little easier. We are running a scheme at the practice called Denplan Essentials. It is the Uk’s leading provider of preventive dental care programmes, and it enables you to pay a monthly fee to cover the cost of your dental examinations, X-rays, Hygiene care and then you receive a 10% discount on any treatment you may need (ie. fillings). It has some great benefits including emergency care if you are abroad, away from home, away on business or on holiday. As part of the Insurance services you will also have access to the 24 hour Denplan emergency helpline, in order to find a practicing Denplan dentist. Another great advantage of this cover is, by paying an additional £1.95 a month, you can upgrade to Implant Cover. This will cover £2,100 per dental implant fixture following a dental injury and a maximum cover of up to £20,000 per incident! Thats an amazing bargin if you ask me. We have leaflets at reception if you want to read up on it.
Woodborough House are offering our patients a free check up if they sign up on the day of your appointment for Denplan Essentials. If you have any other questions regarding Denplan then ring the practice and ask to speak to our practice manager Hayley or our receptionist Sarah. They know all about it.

After a football update and gossip, me and Sen continued our hard work deep scaling and root planing one of our patients we have been seeing for several weeks now. He is a smoker, and his oral health was not the best when we first saw him. He was suffering from gum disease, and his cleaning was not as thorough as it could be (mainly because he has never been taught or shown how to clean and floss properly). Sen gave him some tips and hints in regards to flossing, brushing, and interdental cleaning for when he was at home, and after a few weeks we really did see the diffrence. He has been doing a fantastic job at home, and he is now really motivated about keeping his teeth and gums healthy. We look forward to seeing him again for more football chat and progress.
If you have any queries regarding gum disease, or would like to visit one of our hygienists for oral health education, then please contact us at the practice. We want to keep you smiling

Today Lama has been working her perio magic at WH! We have seen several new patients today, referred to us from other dental practices around the Berkshire area. Lama has been reviewing their periodontal status, taking radiographs, and discussing the extent of gum disease in the mouth. Periodontal disease effects the underlieing tissues and bone in the mouth. When plaque is left around the teeth and the gum margin, it releases toxins, which in turn causes gingivitis. If this is left untreated, it will progress to Periodontal disease. The signs of this disease are mobile teeth, bone loss, drifting teeth and eventually loss of teeth. When reviewing her patients Lama measures the pocket depths of the gum each side of the teeth, takes Xrays to examine any bone loss and explains throughly the extent of the disease and how she can treat it. She may be a little lady but she sure knows how to fight that plaque and disease away!
If you have any questions regarding Gingivitis or Periodontal Disease, then speak to one of our dentist. they will be happy to help.
