Something to smile about

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Phew. It has definitely been “one of those days” today! The waiting room was buzzing, the phones kept ringing, and all the team were hard at work all day.

Me and Sen was treating a patient that we have been seeing for some time now. He came to see us at the beginning of the year with his girlfriend, and presented us with a very difficult case. He had several missing teeth, and needed some extensive work doing. Sen sat down with Nick, to get his professional advice on Dental Implants and Dentures, and discussed what treatment plan would be best suited to this patient. Since then, the patient came in to see us and announced that he was getting married. Yay! Now the pressure was on!

The patient was embarressed by his smile, as he had missing teeth, decay and discoulored teeth. As Dental Implants are an investment and the “Rolls Royce” of dental treatment, our patient needed something to get him through to his wedding day. He needed to have his smile back! By working with our laboratory, getting various study models and diagnostic wax models made up of what the teeth should look like, we were able to provide our patient with a new set of teeth. Now ,the teeth we made are only a temporary measure as the patient is getting married, but what a difference a few hours in the dental chair made! He walked out of WH with a brand new smile. It was all a bit alien to him as he had gone so long with no teeth, and smiling just was not something he naturally did, but he was very pleased with the result. He actually said to me “its the missus you got to impress, not me”. Lets hope she was pleased with the results aswell :-)

If you are suffering from broken teeth, missing teeth, or you would like some more information about full mouth reconstructions  or Dental Implants then please talk to one of our team. They will be more than willing to help.

Investment in an Implant

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Phew. Busy day at WH today! Nick and Steph have been in surgery placing a dental implant for one of our dear patients. The patient has had one before, and swears by it! She had to have a tooth extracted, and to replace the space she decided to invest in another implant. The case was a complex one, as Nick had to do a bone graft. With the use of CT Scans and radiographs Nick is able to place the implant in exactly the correct position. It was a busy few hours, but the time flew for our patient as she had some of our oral sedation (and my IPod). We look forward to seeing the end result.

Well I am off now to enjoy the weekend. I will be back next week for more blogging. Hope you aren’t getting bored of my ranting yet. The stories will continue……

Shaken not stirred.

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Last night the team at WH hosted an event for our referring dentists as a way of thanking them for sending their patients to us for specific treatments. As we have it all under one roof, dentists from all over the county refer their patients to us. Whether they need to see Lama our Periodontist for gum treatment or surgery, Raquel our Endodontist for complex Root Canal treatment, Caroline for anti-wrinkle treatments, or Nick our Prosthodontist for Implants, surgery, crowns, veneers or dentures. We have it all under one roof!

We hosted a James Bond themed night at The Forbury Hotel in Reading, with Martini’s (shaken not stirred) on arrival, food, and the chance to watch a 007 film in their private cinema(popcorn included). It was a great chance to meet up with the dentists, and especially great to put names to faces. The night was great and I hope all enjoyed watching Daniel Craig do his 007 thing. I sure did! We will be holding regular events for our Ivory Club members throughout the year. We love to hear feedback, both positive and negative, regarding our events, and would love to hear any suggestions you may have for the next meeting. Nick and Sarah are also thinking of organising a “study club” for dentists, so i will keep you posted.

The team at Woodborough House would like to thank our colleagues for thinking of us when treating your patients, and thank you for attending our evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Stranded

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

After a very stressful and very long journey, Nick is back from his travels. Nick went to Geneva last Wednesday to take part in a very big, annual convention run by the ITI(International Team for Implantology). Dentists, Surgeons, and Specialists from all over the globe meet at these conventions to learn more from each other in regards to implants and implantology. After the drama of the volcano erupting in Iceland, and all airports being closed, Nick was stranded in Geneva. He managed to hire a car, drive to Paris and then catch a train to Calais. He then had to sit in wait for a place on the ferry in order to get back to the UK. Poor Nick! He hasn’t even got time to recover from the long haul trip as he is back in surgery busy with patients tomorrow. Don’t worry Nick, we will have the coffee and Red Bull on stand by ;-)

Friends and Family welcome

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

All of the dentists at Woodborough House have been busy with new patient exams today. As WH is growing and all the team are making the practice a more relaxed and comfortable place to visit, we have more appointments and time to spend with new, and existing patients. Here at Woodborough House we offer a new patient consultation at a price of £79. This includes a thorough dental examination, soft tissue examination, radiographs and dental advice. The dentists can also provide you with information and advice regarding any of our cosmetic treatments, including tooth whitening, implants and invisible braces. We have extended our opening times, to make booking an appointment easier for you, and we are also running a later evening (until 8pm) the last Thursday of every month. There’s no excuse now!

We pride ourselves in excellent customer care, and we want our existing patients to recommend us to any friends and family who are looking for a new dentist. We will also be rewarding our patients if they do recommend us to anyone. Shout about us, and see what gifts and goodies you may receive! We have already given out bottles of wine, gift vouchers and cinema tickets.

If you have any questions, queries, or would like to book an appointment with one of our dentist then please call out reception team or email us. We also have patient co-ordinators, Cathy and Hayley, that can run speak to you in more detail regarding any particular treatments. This is a free of charge, short consultation, and they will be willing to answer any of your questions regarding treatments and the practice.

Toothbrush Demo

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Today in our lunch hour, we had a rep from Phillips visit us to talk to us about the Sonicare toothbrush range. We like to keep “in the know” at WH so having these regular Continued  Professional Development meetings help us keep on track. As professionals, we have to do these CPD hours in order to stay registered with the General Dental Council. There has been a few re-vamps of the Sonicare toothbrush over the years, and although they are more expensive than the other electric toothbrushes on the market, they are definitely worth their weight in gold! I’ve got one, and I wouldn’t be with out it now. There is also a kids range, which is great for those children who are not brushing as they should. It even plays musical notes (its a shame the adult version doesn’as well). The Sonicare toothbrushes are great for those patients with implants, braces, or if they find brushing with a manual toothbrush hard. They are great for those patients who tend to brush hard, as you let the toothbrush do the work. They are also clinically provine to make you teeth whitee. Big wow!!

We have got demo toothbrushes and leaflets if you are interested in them, so please feel free to ask about them. We want to do all we can to keep you smiling.

The good old days

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Many of our patients will remember the days before Sarah and Nick, when they came to visit the previous owner of the practice. We have heard many stories from patients of the “good old days” when he was practicing here, getting them in “the head-lock” and smudging the ladies lipstick. He has a big fan base and they all still talk about him.Well, today, Nick and Steph have been treating his lovely wife. Even for her dental appointments she manages to look super glam and gorgeous! It’s always great to see our friends in for treatment, and it is especially important to us that professionals trust and recommend Nick. Nick and Steph have been working their magic, taking photo’s, and carrying out advanced dentistry, giving the patient the smile and comfort they require. We all want to keep you smiling :-)

All the Essentials

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

We are all feeling the pinch at the moment, and fixing our teeth may not be the top of our agenda’s, but here at Woodborough House we want to suggest a way to help make things a little easier. We are running a scheme at the practice called Denplan Essentials. It is the Uk’s leading provider of preventive dental care programmes, and it enables you to pay a monthly fee to cover the cost of your dental examinations, X-rays, Hygiene care and then you receive a 10% discount on any treatment you may need (ie. fillings). It has some great benefits including emergency care if you are abroad, away from home, away on business or on holiday. As part of the Insurance services you will also have access to the 24 hour Denplan emergency helpline, in order to find a practicing Denplan dentist.  Another great advantage of this cover is, by paying an additional £1.95 a month, you can upgrade to Implant Cover. This will cover £2,100 per dental implant fixture following a dental injury and a maximum cover of up to £20,000 per incident! Thats an amazing bargin if you ask me. We have leaflets at reception if you want to read up on it.

Woodborough House are offering our patients a free check up if they sign up on the day of your appointment for Denplan Essentials. If you have any other questions regarding Denplan then ring the practice and ask to speak to our practice manager Hayley or our receptionist Sarah. They know all about it.

A familiar face

Friday, February 19th, 2010

If you visit Woodborough House today, you may see a familiar face wondering around the practice. No, it isn’t a ghost of WH past, it is our recently retired practice manager Linda! After leaving the practice, she decided it was time to fix up her teeth. She is investing in some Dental Implants to replace some missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium fixtures that fuse with the jawbone. They replicate the natural root structure of a tooth and provide a fit that is very secure and natural looking. They definitely are the best thing since sliced bread!

She has been to see Nick several times for consultations, radiographs, impression appointments, photos, you name it, and today is the big day! All the girls are ready for her arrival, and all hands are on deck. Linda is also indulging in some of our oral sedation. No dancing on the work tops Linda!! We are all excited about seeing the final resultsof the treatment. I’m sure she will be smiling from ear to ear.

If you are interested in Dental Implants or would like to know what treatment options are available for you, feel free ring our reception team and they will be able to book you an appointment with our patient co-coordinators or a dentist. Alternatively check out our website for information.

Bye bye broken bridge

Friday, February 12th, 2010

We started the day today fixing one of our patients bridge problems. He originally came to see us, as a bridge he had made to replace some missing front teeth, and fallen out. Sometimes, when bridges de-bond the dentists are able to simple “glue it back in”. Unfortunately this time, this was not possible. We discussed with our patient his options, and ideally Dental Implants would have been the most superior way of replacing these missing teeth. He decided, for now, to have a denture made to replace the missing teeth. We took impressions, and after a lot of blood, sweat and tears at the lab, the final denture is made. He was happy to have his teeth back again. We will be seeing him regualrly for his dental check ups to ensure he is looking after and cleaning his denture correctly.

If you need advice about looking after your dentures or would like to speak to one of our dentists regarding dentures and denture care, then feel free to ask.
