Interesting Cases – Exceptional Results, Part 2.

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Nick was referred an eighteen year old girl with missing lateral incisors. Her smile has been restored by placing two Straumann implants with screw retained crowns. Nick will always try to make the final restoration screw retained due to its flexibility – in case the crown ever needs to be removed at a later date. This treatment was provided using 3D guided surgery planning. As you can see from the photos we have had a fantastic result and the patient has left our care very happy with her new smile. The patient has now been referred back to her general dentist. See the images below for the transformation and beautiful results.

Spectacular results, and a beautiful smile to boot.

Do you care for your Crown?

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Are you looking for a natural looking smile which is both secure and great looking? Crowns can help to redesign your smile and give you a brand new look. They can also be the answer to fixing teeth which are chipped or would look vastly improved with a little extra help.

Porcelain crowns can even be a better choice than dental veneers in some cases, whilst being equally as secure – lasting on average for around 10-15 years if looked after properly.

At Woodborough House, we specialise in using all-ceramic porcelain crowns for cosmetic reasons to help enhance your smile and make your teeth look as naturally as possible.  These are known as ‘dental caps’ and these can be considered to help with an aesthetic restoration.

Getting your crowns made

Getting a crown fitted can involve two appointments for a single crown and more appointments for more complex aesthetic work which needs completing. Initially you will have an appointment to make a digital impression of the teeth and prepare it and the second appointment will then involve fitting the crowns into place.

You will usually have a hygienist appointment first so we can be sure you have good oral hygiene before going ahead with the treatment. In some cases root canal treatment may be necessary, which is usually carried out before getting the impressions for the crowns.

Secure Porcelain Crowns

Once your new porcelain crowns are fitted you’ll find that they’re very secure as they are bonded on and can last on average for around 10-15 years. This means they’re fairly sturdy given the average wear that teeth go through on a daily basis.

Not only will they feel secure but they’ll also look completely natural – unlike some metal crowns which have simply been fused with porcelain – which have reportedly shown dark gum lines over time. Here at Woodborough House you can feel assured that we only use the metal crowns where space requirements (or a lack of) demand this.

Caring for your crowns

To ensure that your crowns last as long as possible, it’s vital you look after them. This can be achieved with regular check-ups and a good oral hygiene programme. Things to avoid include a sugary diet and excessive grinding of the teeth – as well as misuse of the teeth such as opening beer bottles with your front teeth for example.

If you’re thinking about getting porcelain ceramic crowns, think of it as an investment in your smile and oral health, especially if you dislike or feel embarrassed by your chipped or damaged set of teeth. Would you love a smile that’s fit for the crown?

Are you after a dazzling, white smile like Kate Middleton? The ‘ideal’ of a bright, beautiful looking straight smile is one that most people dream of. Not only is it easy on the eye, but can also really help to transform your teeth into a royal, winning smile. Best of all, it can be created to look as natural as possible.

Here at Woodborough House we use leading cosmetic makeover technologies and techniques to transform your smile. From whitening to implants, dentures to crowns and bridges, our skilled team of cosmetic dentists and our specialist prosthodontist (Dr Nick Fahey) are here to help you make the most of your natural features and transform your smile.

Dental Bonding

In some cases, teeth whitening alone cannot resurrect a beautiful smile. At Woodborough House we use the latest dental bonding techniques to professionally repair slight cracks and chips, and to conceal troublesome stains on your teeth. This is achieved by coating the teeth with a thin layer of composite resin, which is carefully colour-matched to the natural hue of your teeth. As the composite resin hardens, our clinicians skilfully sculpt it to evenly cover and fill any damaged areas. This can be completed in one visit to the practice, and is a cost-effective way to achieve the smile you want.

Porcelain crowns

Woodborough House is committed to maintaining the highest standards in amalgam-free dentistry. As part of this, we offer high quality all porcelain crowns to patients with severely damaged teeth. Before the placement of any porcelain crown we remove the damaged portion of your tooth and reshape the remaining part so it is the perfect fit for your new crown. An adhesive is then used to fit the crown securely to your tooth. The new crown can be matched to your natural tooth colour to ensure it looks and feels like a natural part of your mouth.

This procedure includes 2 visits to the practice, and can last 10-15 years.

Dental Bridges

Woodborough House can also provide patients with dental bridges if you are missing one or more teeth and do not wish to be treated with dental implants. Missing teeth can promote a general weakening of the jaw structure as teeth often shift to compensate for the gap, so it’s important to ensure any potential movement is minimized through the installation of a dental bridge. Using only the finest ceramic materials, our dental bridges are created to look and feel as natural as possible.

Amalgam-free fillings

Traditional amalgam-based silver fillings can often corrode and leak, staining the filling and in many instances giving the tooth an unsightly ‘black’ appearance. Today, amalgam-free fillings are growing in popularity due to both the aesthetic and health value and at Woodborough House we offer a full range of amalgam-free filling options that also blend more naturally with the colour of your teeth. We also offer an amalgam removal and disposal service and follow strict protocol established by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology to ensure the total safety of both our patients and staff.

Dentures

Using the latest advances in computer-imaging technology, at Woodborough House, we are able to create your new dentures one tooth at a time. We begin by designing a digital portrait of what the finished product will look like. From this digital imagery, we design then create your dentures. We blend and fashion each tooth so it fits as perfectly and naturally as possible. We work hard to ensure that every step of the process is as precise as possible, to give you absolute confidence and a stunning set of new dentures that look just like real teeth.

If these cosmetic dental procedures sound like a great way to enhance your smile in terms of a smile makeover, why not give us a call on 0118 984 3108 where one of our staff will be happy to help you book an appointment.

Crowns aren’t just for Wills and Kate!

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Do you hide in terror at the thought of showing your teeth? Perhaps you work in a customer facing role and can’t hide your smile, which is the cause of much embarrassment. Porcelain crowns could be the answer.

Porcelain crowns are designed to look like natural teeth and can be made from a variety of dental materials. Here at Woodborough House, we use all-ceramic porcelain crowns for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons as they look like natural teeth. These crowns are also known as ‘dental caps’ and are considered as an aesthetic restoration.

Crown fitting

Having a crown fitted can involve anything from two appointments for a single crown to more appointments for complex aesthetic work that needs completing. The first appointment will be to prepare and take a digital impression of the teeth, whilst the second appointment will involve fitting the crowns into place.

Porcelain crowns can be a better choice than dental veneers in some cases.  However veneers are also a good option and can be less invasive as dentists often have to grind a portion of the original tooth away to fit crowns into place.

You can prepare to receive crowns by making an appointment. You will see the hygienist first, who will make sure you have good oral hygiene prior to treatment. Root canal treatment may be necessary at some point or other as well, prior to the crown impressions.

Secure

Porcelain crowns are very secure as they are usually bonded on. Once fitted, they usually last for an average of 10-15 years which given the average wear and tear of teeth over time means they are fairly sturdy!

Porcelain ceramic crowns are used due to the natural look they give, as metal crowns fused with porcelain have been noted to show dark gum lines over time. At Woodborough, we only use metal crowns in areas where space requirements (or a lack of it) demand this.

Looking after your crowns

Porcelain crowns, especially zirconia are very biocompatible and so it is wise to look after them to ensure they last. One of the ways to do this is to have regular check-ups and a good oral hygiene programme. Grinding your teeth, a sugary diet and opening beer bottles with your front teeth are all discouraged.

All in all, porcelain ceramic crowns are a good option to consider if you dislike or feel embarrassed by your chipped or severely damaged teeth.  Why not give us a call on 0118 984 3108 where one of our friendly team will be happy to discuss your requirements.
