Investment in an Implant

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Phew. Busy day at WH today! Nick and Steph have been in surgery placing a dental implant for one of our dear patients. The patient has had one before, and swears by it! She had to have a tooth extracted, and to replace the space she decided to invest in another implant. The case was a complex one, as Nick had to do a bone graft. With the use of CT Scans and radiographs Nick is able to place the implant in exactly the correct position. It was a busy few hours, but the time flew for our patient as she had some of our oral sedation (and my IPod). We look forward to seeing the end result.

Well I am off now to enjoy the weekend. I will be back next week for more blogging. Hope you aren’t getting bored of my ranting yet. The stories will continue……

Shaken not stirred.

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Last night the team at WH hosted an event for our referring dentists as a way of thanking them for sending their patients to us for specific treatments. As we have it all under one roof, dentists from all over the county refer their patients to us. Whether they need to see Lama our Periodontist for gum treatment or surgery, Raquel our Endodontist for complex Root Canal treatment, Caroline for anti-wrinkle treatments, or Nick our Prosthodontist for Implants, surgery, crowns, veneers or dentures. We have it all under one roof!

We hosted a James Bond themed night at The Forbury Hotel in Reading, with Martini’s (shaken not stirred) on arrival, food, and the chance to watch a 007 film in their private cinema(popcorn included). It was a great chance to meet up with the dentists, and especially great to put names to faces. The night was great and I hope all enjoyed watching Daniel Craig do his 007 thing. I sure did! We will be holding regular events for our Ivory Club members throughout the year. We love to hear feedback, both positive and negative, regarding our events, and would love to hear any suggestions you may have for the next meeting. Nick and Sarah are also thinking of organising a “study club” for dentists, so i will keep you posted.

The team at Woodborough House would like to thank our colleagues for thinking of us when treating your patients, and thank you for attending our evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

A brand new smile!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I popped in to Sarah’s surgery today, to see how one of our lovely young patients was getting on with her fixed braces. She works in the village, and has had her braces on for quite a long time now. I actually had mine fixed around the same time as her, so it was a race to the finish line! She has now had them removed and they look fab!! I cant believe what a difference the braces has made to her smile. It may seem like a marathon when you have fixed braces, but the results at the end of the treatment is well worth it. Having fixed braces is a big commitment, and special care needs to be taken when having them on. Good oral hygiene is so important when wearing braces, and making sure you attend all appointments at your orthodontist is also really important. You get to know your orthodontist well as you will be there every 6-8 weeks. She is so pleased with her straighter smile that she has now decided to have them whitened.

If you are interested in having your teeth straightened with either fixed or removable braces, or you would like to have your teeth whitened then please talk to our team.

Friends and Family welcome

All of the dentists at Woodborough House have been busy with new patient exams today. As WH is growing and all the team are making the practice a more relaxed and comfortable place to visit, we have more appointments and time to spend with new, and existing patients. Here at Woodborough House we offer a new patient consultation at a price of £79. This includes a thorough dental examination, soft tissue examination, radiographs and dental advice. The dentists can also provide you with information and advice regarding any of our cosmetic treatments, including tooth whitening, implants and invisible braces. We have extended our opening times, to make booking an appointment easier for you, and we are also running a later evening (until 8pm) the last Thursday of every month. There’s no excuse now!

We pride ourselves in excellent customer care, and we want our existing patients to recommend us to any friends and family who are looking for a new dentist. We will also be rewarding our patients if they do recommend us to anyone. Shout about us, and see what gifts and goodies you may receive! We have already given out bottles of wine, gift vouchers and cinema tickets.

If you have any questions, queries, or would like to book an appointment with one of our dentist then please call out reception team or email us. We also have patient co-ordinators, Cathy and Hayley, that can run speak to you in more detail regarding any particular treatments. This is a free of charge, short consultation, and they will be willing to answer any of your questions regarding treatments and the practice.

The good old days

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Many of our patients will remember the days before Sarah and Nick, when they came to visit the previous owner of the practice. We have heard many stories from patients of the “good old days” when he was practicing here, getting them in “the head-lock” and smudging the ladies lipstick. He has a big fan base and they all still talk about him.Well, today, Nick and Steph have been treating his lovely wife. Even for her dental appointments she manages to look super glam and gorgeous! It’s always great to see our friends in for treatment, and it is especially important to us that professionals trust and recommend Nick. Nick and Steph have been working their magic, taking photo’s, and carrying out advanced dentistry, giving the patient the smile and comfort they require. We all want to keep you smiling :-)

Implant Marathon

Friday, February 5th, 2010

7.30am start for me and Steph today! It is a busy day at Woodborough House. Nick was seeing one of his patients for some extensive implant treatment. This lady is having 10 dental implants placed today. She has been having trouble with her dentures for years, so she has decided to do something about it. In order to make her dentures more stable, easier to eat, her speech improved, and a better quality of life she is having implants placed to help secure her dentures. Think of it as lego (but without the multicolour blocks and lego men)! Dental implants are placed into the bone, using guided surgery equipment to ensure the procedure is completely accurate and the position of the implants are in the correct place. New dentures are then made, which will inter-lock with the implants when in the patients mouth. Those baby’s won’t budge!!! The implants ensure great ancorage of the dentures, making them more stable for the patient. It will make eating easier, speech improved and the patient will hardly know they are wearing dentures. Many patients who have this treatment ask themselves “why didn’t I do this sooner?” The patient also had the advantage of having IV sedation with Donny. This is a great bonus, as time goes by very quickly and Donny can provide antibiotics  to help the healing process and time.

If you are fed up of loose dentures, and feel you need something more stable, then feel free to ask one of our Team about dental implants. We can provide you with some information and discuss the treatment for you. You can also check out the links on the website, for some night time reading. We all know our patient will be smiling with her new dental implants.

It’s a makeover!

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

We have all been shifting desks, and moving paper work, as today is the start of the office makeover!! We are redecorating and reorganising our office space to make way for a new patient lounge area. This area will be used for patients that want to come in to discuss any treatment with our patient co-ordinators Cathy and  Hayley C. We can show our patients past cases and photographs aswell as explain procedures in more detail. It will also be used as an area for our patients to chill out when having oral sedation (we dont want to make you feel embarressed after having a sip of our happy juice). It will be a great place for you to sit down with our practice manager Hayley to discuss any finance issues or costs of treatments, as it will be more private and confidential for both parties.

We are all looking forward to the launch of the new “patient lounge area”. I don’t think my idea of pink walls has been noted, but all the same it will be a great place for our patients to sit, relax, enjoy a coffee and talk to our team. Just another way WH wants to make your dental experience the best it can be.

“Extra! Extra! Read all about it!”

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Everybody is feeling the “pinch” at the moment as Christmas has just passed and the new year has kicked in, but here at Woodborough House we are going that extra mile to help make things a little easier for you. We are launching a Special Offer this week, for half price new patient dental exams with Nae and Sen. The dental check up will include a full dental exam, radiographs, soft tissue examination, and a smile assessment.

This special offer will be available in this weeks Evening Post Newspaper. It will run until the end of February, and you will need to present the advert when you come to your appointment. Keep your eyes peeled!

Pimp up that Tooth!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

We are still busy here at the practice. Despite the awful weather and roads, our patients have managed to get here for their appointments. Nae saw a lovely lady today who was actually grateful to have spent an hour with us having fillings!!! She is a new mum so she said “the time to herself was wonderful”. I can think of better ways to be spending my time rather than having fillings!! Shopping springs to mind (hee hee).

She had an old amalgam filling that had some decay underneath it. She decided to “pimp her tooth” and go for a white composite filling to replace it. It looked much better afterwards, and you could hardly tell a filling was there at all. Fab job Nae!!  If you are interested in having some cosmetic dentistry treatment, or having some old amalgams replaced then please talk to you dentist. If this is at all possible, then our team of dentists here will be happy to help.

A Perfect Fit

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Still chilly here in Pangbourne, but we continue to work hard at keeping our patients smiling. Today Sen saw a lovely gentleman who has been having some treatment with us recently. He had a bridge that replaced some missing front teeth, that had been causing him problems for some time. After having his initial dental check up and radiographs, we discovered that the bridge was failing and that something had to be done to replace his missing teeth. After explaining all options, he decided to go for a removable denture. It took several appointments, impressions and fiddling around but we got there eventually. He now has a perfect fitting denture and a smile to be proud of again. Smiles all round here at WH!
