It has been a busy, exciting and stressful time for me recently… I have been revising for my “Dental Nurse Exam” (NEBDN – National Examining Board for Dental Nurses)!

The exam is taken in two parts, first the written papers and then a practical OSCE in February.

This exam is taken by all dental nurses, who on passing will need to register with the GDC (General Dental Council) to be able to work within the dental team.

The exam is not easy and covers every aspect of dental nursing from medical emergencies to the current legislation. Lots to learn!

I work full time at Woodborough House so I have had to fit in as much studying in my lunch breaks as possible. Sen my dentist and Helen the hygienist have really helped me.  I then went home and studied in the evenings. Gosh, they have turned me into a real “swot”!

I attend college weekly in Reading to learn the NEBDN syllabus.

My exam was held at Swindon New College on Saturday. My friend took myself and another girl on the course to our exam and then we went out for a meal after. Thankfully, I still had an appetite!

It’s good to make friends with other nurses on the course (run by a company called Cavity) and we all share our work and learning experiences.

Woodborough House, who have recently been awarded “Highly Commended in the Best Employer Category” at the Private Dentistry Awards UK 2013, are fantastic at encouraging us to further our careers and qualifications. They really do support us nurses and put great emphasis on lifelong learning.

So everybody keep your fingers, toes and teeth crossed for me – I’ll keep you posted!
