Woodborough House Work Experience

I first started at Woodborough House in October 2012 as work experience to see how I would like working as a dental nurse, but I officially started two weeks later as a trainee nurse and started my college course a month later.

I am on the verge of passing the first part of my dental nursing exam – I hope! – which I sit at the end of this year, and my practical test will be soon after in the new year. My experience here so far has been varied and always interesting, but what I like most about being a nurse at Woodborough House is being able to see how different general dentist and specialist dentists work, as well as being able to see the different machines and technology they use e.g. the iTero which I still find amazing, and our new Ozone machine.

I look forward to working David Jones, who comes to the practice every Tuesday, as he has a special interest in root canal treatment. It will be great learning more about the treatment, as I initially became interested in working in dentistry when I myself was having a root canal treatment, and I am interested to see the treatment be carried out (I know – you’d think that would put me off!).

I also look forward to being able to watch the full process of an implant being placed with Nick, as I have only ever seen them once they’re already fitted and crowned in x-ray pictures. I really enjoy being able to have the opportunity to attend BDA meetings and ITI evenings, as I find the speakers we have are always very interesting as well, as being really helpful for my training and college work; always a good combination to ensure academic success!
