What Are Veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin encasing placed over a tooth to alter the appearance. Veneers offer a wide range of options when it comes to correcting teeth, allowing us to:

  • Change the colour
  • Adjust the position
  • Reshape a tooth
  • Change a tooth’s texture

The Benefits of Veneers

Natural – Veneers offer a natural-looking appearance, blending in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. The dentist will work with you to pick the best colour that will look white, but not too obvious, unless that’s what you want.

Improved Shape – The shape and size of your teeth can be improved with veneers, ideal if you have uneven teeth.

Quick – Your veneers can usually be fitted in one appointment if you opt for composite veneers.

Stain Resistant – Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, so there’s no need to worry about discolouration over time.

Comfortable – Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Veneers?

Veneers are a wonderful solution for those who are unhappy with the appearance of their smile because of discolouration, crooked teeth or gaps. However, dental veneers are not for everyone. In some cases, the dentist may feel you will benefit more from teeth straightening or whitening, they will discuss the alternative options with you during a consultation.

Will I lose a lot of my existing teeth if I get veneers?

A small amount of enamel is removed from your existing tooth. This is so they’re rough enough for the veneers to bond with the tooth and space is created to accommodate the new veneer. If this isn’t done your smile will look bulky in many cases. Taking this approach often gives that ‘false teeth’ look.

How long does it take to fit veneers?

Once they’ve been made, veneers can be fitted in just one appointment by our highly skilled dentist. The entire process can take 2-3 weeks depending on the number of veneers.

Will I need to walk around with rough teeth until my veneers are ready?

We will provide you with a temporary solution until your veneers are finally fitted. These temporary veneers, often referred to as a trial smile, allow you to get used to a new smile and provide feedback on any adjustments that may be needed.

How long do veneers last?

If you look after your veneers well, they can last at least 10-15 years. To ensure they’re kept in good condition and last as long as possible, you should regularly visit the dentist for check-ups.

The Process of Fitting Porcelain Dental Veneers in Reading, Berkshire

Step 1

The consultation

At this appointment, we discuss how you would like your smile to be designed, colour, the shape of teeth and your vision for the overall end result. We will always discuss alternatives such as composite veneers or edge bonding. We will inform you of the pros and cons of each option, the costs and any monthly payment plans if applicable.

Step 2

Your smile will have been designed to your exact specification and at this appointment, we prepare your tooth by removing small amounts of enamel from the tooth surface. This gives your tooth a rougher surface for your veneer to bond to and it also creates the space and room on your tooth surface for it to accommodate the new veneer once it has been crafted by our master technicians.

Step 3

We then take impressions of your teeth or in many cases a digital scan. This creates the blueprint for the manufacture of your new veneers. We send this information to our master technician along with a specific prescription for every tooth detailing colour, texture, shape and design. Our technician crafts each veneer by hand, a time consuming and very detailed process that ensures the very best end result. Depending on the number of veneers this can take 2-3 weeks.

Step 4

At this appointment, we also create temporary veneers and fit them to your teeth. These temporary veneers are made from a weaker material but allow you to visualise your smile and provide feedback to us for any tweaks and changes that you may want. The temporary veneer also protects the prepared tooth while you wait for your new veneers to be manufactured.

Step 5

We invite you back to the practice once your veneers are ready and we remove the temporary veneers. We then carefully place and bond your new porcelain veneers on your prepared tooth surface and reveal your beautiful new smile in a mirror to you. All that is left if for you to enjoy your confident new smile.

Cerinate® Lumineers™

Cerinate® Lumineers™ are porcelain veneers, custom-made for your teeth. Cerinate® Lumineers™ are porcelain shells that are bonded onto the front of your teeth without any of the preliminary grinding or shaving that many porcelain veneers varieties require. Although Cerinate® Lumineers™ are not suitable for every case, if you have suitable teeth, only two visits to Woodborough House are required for us to painlessly reshape, straighten and whiten your smile.

Macveneers™ are the preferred choice in porcelain veneers among athletes, celebrities and other public figures in the U.S. Made with pressed ceramics, Macveneers™ are stain resistant and nearly twice as durable as traditional porcelain veneers. They provide added protection for your teeth. Colour-matching is applied all the way from the inside of the veneer to the outer shell, ensuring the closest colour match to existing teeth and much greater realism.

Da Vinci porcelain veneers™

Developed in California, Da Vinci porcelain veneers™ provide our patients with beautiful, restored smiles, similar to those seen on the U.S. reality show, “Extreme Makeover”.

Da Vinci porcelain veneers™ employ a thin sheet of porcelain that adheres to each tooth. Once it is treated and harden, they mould perfectly to enhance your smile. Woodborough House will match the veneers™ to compliment the hue of your natural teeth.
