Over and Out

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

We are all feeling very festive and giddy in Pangbourne today as it is nearly Christmas. Like everyone, we want to slow down as we approach our Christmas break,  but we have definitely not had time for that at the practice! We have been bombarded with tooth aches, broken teeth and other dental problems that people want to get sorted before the holidays. Nae, Sen and the nurses have been flat out helping our patients. The chocolates and mince pies are on hold! The practice is closed between Christmas and New Year, but if you have any problems between then, we have an emergency telephone number (which you can obtain by ringing the practice). A dentist will be able to give advice regarding any dental problems you may have.

We will be back with our daily blogs in the New Year. All the Woodborough House Team would like to wish our patients a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Yaer. Keep smiling. Over and Out xxxx

Come rain, wind or very deep snow

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Well, like everybody across the county the weather caused complete chaos last night. Widge had to leave her car stranded in Theale and walk home, Laura got stuck in Tilehurst for 2 hours, and Nae and Sarah got stuck on the M4 for 6 hours!!! But, despite all the mayhem, the girls and Sen managed to brave the weather and make it to the practice to see all our lovely patients for dental examinations, fillings, tooth aches and Hygiene appointments. A little snow won’t stop us WH troopers! Widge walked to work, Sen and Nae ventured up the motorway, and Helen braved the snowy hills of the countryside. We hope all our patients managed to get home safely yesterday. If you need to speak with us regarding any appointments then please ring us at the practice. We want to keep you all happy :-)

“All I want for Christmas is my front teeth”

Monday, December 21st, 2009

We have made one of our 17 year old patients happy this week, by giving him a new front tooth for Christmas (excuse the pun). Like many teenage boys, he is very keen on contact sports, and unfortunately due to a sporting injury he managed to knock and chip his front tooth. Due to the accident, the front tooth started to become painful and discolour, and Raquel had to perform Root Canal Treatment on his front tooth. After this, we started to prepare a new front crown for him, as the tooth needed to be protected. After a couple of trips to see us, several impressions and “trimming” of the tooth, we were able to fit his new crown. What a difference it has made!! He even took a trip to our laboratory for a custom shade, so we were able to match the colour and appearance of the tooth exactly. He has walked out of the practice smiling again, due to a brillant crown. Let’s hope he remembers that mouth guard now when playing sport!!

If you have questions regarding cosmetic dentistry, crowns, root canal, or mouth guards for sports, please ask your dentist or our team. We will be happy to help.

All Sealed Up!

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

It has been a busy Saturday morning today at the practice. We have had all the kids in Today! Sen has been educating them in how to look after their teeth and keep the clean. He has also been explaining the benefits of fissure sealants. The fissures in our teeth are a great place for bacteria to hang out. They are difficult to keep clean, making them more at risk of developing decay. Fissures can be sealed with a plastic runny material. When the material is set, it helps protect the fissures from decay. The sealants can be tooth coloured or see-through making them almost invisible to the eye. They can last for years, but if they fall out or wear your dentist can “top them up”. I’m getting on now, and mine are still there from when I was a child!

Our general dentist can discuss with you, if your children need fissure sealants. If you have any questions regarding sealants then please feel free to ask your dentist or any of the team. If the kids are happy, we are all happy :-)

Bon Voyage!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

We all waved goodbye and farewell to Sarah and Nick as they fly off to Australia to visit friends and family for the Christmas period. They have both been hectic finishing treatments, fitting crowns, and making sure all their patients are happy before they went away. Pangbourne won’t be the same without you. All the team at Woodborough House want to wish them a very Merry Christmas and a very happy (and hot) New Year. We are not sour…………. honest. Have a fab time!

Root Canal Crazy!!

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Today at the practice, we have been bombarded with tooth aches! It always seems to be around this time of year that people start to suffer. This shows just how important regular dental examinations are. Our patients have been coming in complaining of pain on biting, being woken at night, or dull aches. Nae was able to take radiographs and diagnose the problem tooth or teeth. Many people become extremely nervous when the word “root canal” is mentioned, but this may be because they may not know exactly what it involves. Root Canal is basically dis-infecting and cleaning the tooth. Small instruments are used to help clean out the tooth and a rubber material is used to fill the root canal. We have the great advantage of having Raquel, our in house Endodontist. She has a special interest in endodontics, and has treated our most complex cases with great success. She is lovely, and all the WH Team are so pleased she has joined us. We want to keep you all smiling, so providing our patients with the highest professional care is one of the ways we can achieve this.  If you have any questions regarding root canal treatment then please ask our team.

A Big Hello from Overseas

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

We have received an email from our kiwi nurse Steph, telling us all about her time and travels back home in New Zealand. We are all very very jealous that she is enjoying her time in the sunshine, while all of us back in Pangbourne are braving the frost and snow. I am sure she is reading this, so all the WH team want to say a big “hello”. We have been missing you running around the practice and our patients have been asking if we have heard from you. Enjoy your time over there Steph, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year. I hope you feel rested, because I am sure you will be coming back to a busy busy surgery. Have a fab Christmas and New Year xx

Reminding You

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Today the girls on reception are busy sending out reminders for our patients dental check ups. We decided to get in early as the postman will be very busy over the Christmas period and we want to give you all plenty of notice so you are prepared for the new year. You should see our reminder postcards sitting on your doormats very soon. If you give the practice a call, the girls will be able to book your dental examination for you.  Having routine dental check ups is essential for keeping your mouth and teeth healthy. The dentist will be able to check soft tissues, gums, old restorations and give you oral health advice. If you are interested in any cosmetic procedures and treatments then just ask your general dentist, and they will be able to discuss what is possible for you.  We want to keep all our patients smiling.

Funky Finance!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

It has been manic at the practice today! All the team have been working really hard to get all our patients sorted and happy before the Christmas Holidays.

Sen had a lovely lady in interested in improving her smile. She has had a crown on her front tooth, but wants to have it redone for cosmetic reasons. The only thing that is holding her back is finance. Here at Woodborough House we can offer our patients a 0% finace scheme,  when treatment costs reach a certain threshold. This enables you to start treatment, but spread the cost over the year. You can use the finace to help pay for crowns, dentures, bridges, veneers, implants, and cosmetic treatment. This is just one the many things Woodborough House can do for you to help make you visit here more pleasurable, and to keep you all smiling.

A Big Thank you

Monday, December 14th, 2009

All the team at Woodborough Huse would like to say a big Thank you to all that helped make the Pangbourne Christmas evening such a fab night. If you were in the village you may have spotted Christmas the Reindeer in our car park, Santa having a few words with Sarah, and snow falling just over the practice. God knows how that happened!!

It really was a fantastic event, and all the people in the village that helped make the evening run so smoothly and safely did a brilliant job. A special thank you to Sarah and Nick for letting the children, and reindeer, run riot outside Woodborough House. We enjoyed spreading a little Christmas cheer, and we hope you all left smiling.
