The Journey to Straight

Teeth Begins Here

Overcrowding, crooked teeth, and misaligned bites can kill the confidence you have in your smile. Not only that, but they can also lead to a build-up of pressure on your temporomandibular joints.

Orthodontic issues are often addressed while you’re still quite young, however, getting braces later in life to deal with these problems is becoming increasingly popular.

There are several orthodontic options open to you. Here at Woodborough House Dental Practice, we believe in matching you with the perfect treatment that suits your needs, lifestyle, and budget.

What Are Fixed Braces?

One of the most popular ways of addressing issues with overcrowded or crooked teeth is to have fixed braces. These provide consistent and reliable results and are suitable for children and adults alike regardless of the severity of your malocclusions.

Fixed braces involve having brackets cemented onto the front of your teeth. A wire is threaded through these brackets and held in place using small elastic bands.

Over a period of 18 – 24 months, we’ll gradually tighten these wires. As the wire tightens, your teeth will be gently pulled into a new, more favourable position.

Fixed braces can be made from metal or tooth-coloured ceramic material.

What Are Damon Braces?

Damon braces were first introduced in the 1990s. They are specifically designed to minimise the friction between the brace’s wires and brackets, which means a quicker treatment time, and less discomfort.

The primary difference between Damon braces and the traditional ligation braces is the use of a unique slide mechanism instead of the usual rubber bands that hold the wire to the brackets. Without these elastic bands, your braces will be more subtle and hygienic too.

Using the Damon system, your teeth will have more freedom to move and will have less friction. Not only this, but using this method will mean we’ll need to see you fewer times during the course of the treatment, as we won’t need to tighten the wires as often.

Often, when using Damon braces, there is less of a need to carry out any extractions or to use expanders.
