A Completely Relaxed Dental Experience

As caring dental professionals, we’re acutely aware that, for some, a visit to the dentist can be an anxiety-inducing experience.

Whether you’ve previously endured pain or discomfort during a dental procedure, or have long-standing dental phobia, the upshot can often be that your oral health plays second fiddle to your fears.

Here at Woodborough House Dental Practice, we believe in doing everything in our power to ensure you’re completely at ease and are comfortable throughout both routine visits and complex procedures. Your oral health is of paramount importance to us, and we’ll strive to make your time with us a favourable experience.

There are several ways we will achieve this. First and foremost, we adopt a caring and supportive approach to all patients, whether you’re nervous or not. Communication and patience are core in ensuring your anxiety can be put to rest during your time with us.

We’ve worked hard to develop such a strong reputation, so much so that many nervous patients will travel cross-country for the opportunity to undergo all manner of procedures in our clinic. We invite you to discuss your fears with us and let us help you overcome them through the use of sedation.

How Does Sedation Work?

Sedation helps you stay perfectly relaxed during your visit to Woodborough House. The level of sedation you’ll receive will vary depending on the type and length of treatment we’re carrying out.

We offer a range of sedation options including nitrous oxide, mild oral sedation, intravenous sedation, and general anaesthesia.

If you’re going to be sedated during your visit, our friendly team will start off by taking the time to discuss your dental concerns before we administer the sedative drugs.

Depending on the type of sedation we use, we may ask that you arrive ahead of your scheduled appointment to allow the sedative to start working. We know that needles can be scary. To overcome this, we use a device called The Wand. This uses the latest technology to deliver pain-free injections. With The Wand, there’s no pin-prick and no needle in sight.

The sedative is fast-acting, and the dose can be carefully controlled by our team to ensure you retain an optimum sense of calm.

Throughout your entire procedure, you’ll remain conscious, and we’ll keep communicating with you so that you know exactly what we’re doing. You won’t, however, feel a thing. Instead, you’ll remain remarkably relaxed.

Once we’re done, you’ll be able to get up and walk out of the chair. The drug can take a while to fully wear off, so it’s advisable to bring a friend, partner, or family member along with you to your appointment.

Is Dental Sedation Suitable for Everyone?

Dental sedation is suitable for:

  • Nervous patients
  • Patients with low pain thresholds
  • Those with a sensitive gag reflex
  • Patients undergoing complex dental surgery

There are some medical conditions that may limit which sedation method we use. Before we provide you with any sedation, we’ll discuss your general health to ensure we’re providing you with the right option.
