We reframed from pulling our hair out this morning, after seeing a class from Pangbourne Primary School. They are currently learning about teeth and the dentist, so the school approached us about teaching them for the morning. We all rallied together, put on a show, and gave the kiddies healthy treats and goodie bags. It was tough, but we all managed (even Sen pulled out the stops!)
We taught them oral hygiene, how to brush their teeth correctly, why they have to visit the dentist regularly, and healthy diet. We hope they all enjoyed themselves, and now have plenty to talk and write about for their school projects

Well, we were all gobsmacked when Sarah’s patient walked in the practice for his dental examination 7 stone lighter!!! Yes thats right. 7 stone! We have not seen him in a while, and he looks like a new man. Well done you! His secret……………… healthy diet and excercise. It really is that simple (says me who spends hours in the gym with no results, and looks at a cake and puts on a stone!) From all of us at Woodborough House, a huge congratulations

My brain hurts and my fingers are tired today! I have been busy putting together a patient survey for our new and existing patients, to help us understand your expectations and general overview of Woodborough House. We shall be asking you to fill them out, anonymously, some time soon. The survey has been conducted to help us make visiting Woodborough House a pleasurable experience. It will include questions ranging from the thoroughness and advice given by the dentist, to the reading material in our waiting room.
We are always looking for feedback, both positive a negative, so please let us know what you think of your visit and time here at the practice. Customer Care and satisfaction is very important to us, and it is our aim to ensure we are the primary choice for excellent dental treatment and care. We want to keep you smiling.

Many of you may be aware that we now send out reminders, for your appointments, via the telephone. Don’t be afraid, it’s not a Dalek at the end of the line (I have been told by patients that it sounds like one)! It is an automated telephone service that will simply give your name, date of appointment and time. We have had some patients get slightly confused by it, as they receive the message a couple of days before their appointment and then query what day they are due to see us. Don’t worry, your not going mad. The reminder is actually sent out 48 hours before your appointment. We can send this message to either your home telephone, or many people like to have it sent to their mobile. It is very handy for you busy people out there who don’t know whether they are coming on going!
Please let our reception team know what is best for you. We want to do all we can to help

Raquel has been in today, working her Root Canal magic on our patients. We saw a lovely man from Woodley today, who was referred from his dentist in Tilehurst to see Raquel for a consultation. He had a molar tooth, that was causing him pain on biting. Using our fab microscope, Raquel was able to detect a fracture down the middle of the tooth. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to save this tooth, but the patient now has the option of having an Implant to replace the space. We gave him some information about the treatment, and he booked in to see Nick to discuss his options.
If you have any queries regarding missing teeth, Implants, or Root Canal then please either speak with our patient co-ordinators or your dentist. They will be happy to help.

Another new patient joins the team this morning at WH, and makes us feel like our job is worth doing. She is a full time mum from Upper Basildon, very busy, and told me and Sen that her visit to see us was like “being pampered”. We gave her a dental examination, radiographs, and photos. We discovered that she has a few areas of tooth wear. Many patients may not be aware of this, and can be caused by different things. Bruxism (grinding) is increasingly common. Many people do not realise they are doing it, and can be reduced or solved by using devices such a soft nightguard. Tooth brush abrasion is another cause of generalised tooth wear. Scrubbing those knashers may feel good at the time, but can cause great damge to your tooth enamel! Treat them with care. Speak with your dentist or hygienist about toothbrushing techniques. they are here to help. Acid erosion is another cause. A simple task of brushing teeth after drinking a glass of orange juice can cause erosion.
We want to do all we can to help keep your teeth strong and healthy. If you have any questions about tooth wear, erosion, or bruxism please ask. We want to keep you smiling

Here at WH we want to make your visit, as easy and comfortable for you as we can. We have a few patients that are disabled, using wheelchairs or simply unable to climb our steep staircase. If this is the case for you, please let us know. We can arrange for you to be seen in one of our downstairs surgeries (even if it does mean kicking the dentist out of their comfort zone). We want to make sure you feel relaxed here at WH.
Another way in which we are trying to do our best by our patients is to change our opening times to suit you. We all know its difficult to get away from work sometimes, with the boss moaning about you taking time off, or not being able to escape from the mayhem. We also know that taking a day off to see the dentist or hygienist doesn’t appeal to many people. So, we will be asking our patients what times suit them better. We are looking to open a late night here at the practice so making an appointment to see us, after work, is a lot easier. Please leave us your comments or let us know what hours suit you best. I will keep you posted with any news regarding our late evening. Anything we can do to keep you smiling, is a step in the right direction.

All of the team at Woodborough House want to say a big “Welcome Home” to Nick and Sarah. They both look very chilled out after their break away. We have missed you around the practice over the last month. Give it a few days and it will feel like you have not even been away. Hee Hee. Now it’s time to crack on and get down to business! Great to see you back

Me and Sen saw one of our favourite patients from Tilehurst today, aswell as her cute daughter (who is still very very shy when I try and talk to her). When she comes in for her 6 monthly exam, she always complains about her lower teeth cracking, falling apart or looking “flat”. Sen advised her to invest in a Soft Nightguard. This is an appliance, worn at night, to help stop patients grinding in their sleep. Sometimes we are not even aware that we are doing this! We took impressions, sent them off to the laboratory, and today we fitted the Nightguard. Admittedly, it isn’t the most romantic thing to be wearing when you jump into bed at night, but it will help save those teeth from becoming brittle and cracking in the future. If you are intersted in a Soft Nightguard, then please talk to our dentist. We want to keep those teeth intact, and keep you smiling.
