What a year 2012 was for Woodborough House!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

What a year 2012 was for the Woodborough House staff,

Although we work hard, we’ve all had such a laugh,

Congratulations to Sara and Lou,

They became first-time mummies – both bundles were blue!

Speaking of babies, Sen will soon be a Dad,

Look out for him on TV, on the Sensodyne ad!

But that’s not all, oh no, there’s one more,

Dental nurse Laura is expecting baby number 4,

After 26 years our veteran nurse left,

Good luck for the future Hayley; we wish you the best,

And welcome on board the Woodborough House way,

Our new dentist Mehdi, and new nurses Lo and Jay,

Receptionist Leah doesn’t miss a trick,

She organises all the ITI Study Clubs for Nick,

Our Nick is amazing; he takes on new tasks every day;

Last year he was made Chairman of the Reading BDA,

He’s also been the only one asked

(which is very prestigious and grand)

To give talks to dentists from all over Europe

in Basel, Switzerland.

There to make sure things all run fine and dandy,

(He’d be lost without her) is his trusty nurse, Mandy!

Our Accountant Sam has come up with a fantastic recall system;

She’s made lots of procedures much more efficient, with her pearls of wisdom!

David does cooking and running (he’s our Endodontist)

When he’s not training hard to become on the Specialist list,

Another hard-worker – congratulations to Kirsten,

She’s passed the first part of her exam for nursing!

The prize for ‘Best Hostess’ must go to Sarah, it’s true,

For throwing yet another fantastic WH Summer barbeque,

July also saw the Theale Olympic Torch kiss,

Our staff went to see it – it was one not to be missed!

There was much excitement in Woodborough House growing,

As we watched one of our patients win Bronze in the rowing!

We have our very own celeb – cosmetic dentist Mark treats the stars;

When he’s not working in his Harley Street practice, we claim his expertise at ours!

We are lucky enough to have another expert; specialist periodontist Kuljeet,

He is no match for gum disease in all the patients that he treats!

In October we had Chris Barrow’s “Discovery Day”,

He taught us how to improve our work day-to-day,

An improvement made by hygienist L’ren is very exciting,

She attended a course and now does all our tooth whitening,

Our other hygienist Helen is as knowledgeable as can be,

She has been invaluable in helping us get compliant for CQC.

Our Business Manager Karen is great; she does a lot for compliance too,

She loves her Excel spread sheets and a glamorous high-heeled shoe!

Clinical Manager Cathy is our Mummy; she has us smiling throughout the year,

Patients and staff alike would be lost if she wasn’t here!

Responsible for our new patients, she has many strings to her bow;

As Cathy also works as Woodborough House’s T.C.O!

And working closely alongside Cathy, is little old me;

I’m no William Wordsworth, that’s clear for everyone to see!

I do a little bit of admin, and a lot of work on reception,

And am mainly responsible for our online social media blog collection,

And so this poem comes to an end; my personal highlight of the year,

Was our Christmas party, full of food, booze, dancing and festive cheer!

We rounded off 2012 in a theme of 1920’s wonder,

As we turned up in style to Trunkwell House in a champagne-filled stretch hummer!

A massive thank you to Sarah and Nick for everything that you do,

And to the rest of the WH team for working hard the whole year through!

Now the time has come again after Christmas, for WH to open its door,

So let’s get to work guys and see what 2013 has in store!!

Birthday wishes to a long-standing patient!

Monday, January 28th, 2013

One of our lovely long-standing patients turned 60 earlier this month, so to celebrate we sent her a bouquet of flowers from Green Parlour in Pangbourne. She was really touched and sent us a very sweet card:

“Dear Sarah, Nick and all the Woodborough House Team,

Thank you so much for my beautiful bouquet of flowers for my 60th birthday. It was such a wonderful surprise when they arrived – so very kind and thoughtful of you and much appreciated. They are giving me a lot of pleasure.

You are all such lovely people – as they say “What a team!”

With much love”

We hope she had a wonderful day celebrating!

All for one, and All-on-4!

Get a new level of dental rescue from missing teeth with one of dentistry’s musketeers: The All-on-4 system.

Dentures can be a real nightmare, and missing a large portion of teeth means dealing with them on a long-term scale, including tricky adhesives, diet limitations and gradually losing the ridges to keep them in place.

There’s another way though: All-on-4 allows you to replace a whole arch of teeth with only four dental implants; half as many dental implants as is usually required to bring back a smile.

The benefits over keeping your removable dentures are clear: With minimal surgery, you can restore an entire arch of your mouth to functioning, strong, teeth. You’ll cast away the cumbersome dentures forever!

Patients eligible for All-on-4 will be missing full arches of teeth on the top or bottom of your mouth, or have long term problems with painful, loose, or ill-fitting dentures.

After your dentist has agreed you can benefit from the All-on-4 treatment, we’ll painlessly test your jaw to make sure you have enough bone to support the implants, and remove any teeth remaining which are beyond saving. Then we place your implants, simple as that!

All-on-4 means you can transform your smile in short period of time, as the implants don’t require the same lengthy healing process as other treatments, perfect for anyone looking to get.

This means the procedure will be as painless and minimally invasive as possible. If you’ve got any serious fears about treatment, we can always give you some mild sedation; you’ll barely even know you’ve been treated by the time our dentists have turned your life around.

If you’re not eligible for All-on-4, there’s a multitude of other implant solutions for those with missing or damaged teeth, so don’t despair!

If you want to know more about the All-on-4 system or have any other questions about your oral health, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Woodborough House by calling 0118 321 4084.

If you’re tired of dentures and are looking for a quick and easy way to get fixed, secure and great looking teeth, All-on-4 dental implants could be for you.  Take a look at what the procedure involves and whether it could be the right option for you.

What is the All-on-4 procedure?

All-on -4 is a technique where a metal and acrylic fixed bridge (i.e a srewed in denture) is attached to 4 dental implants. Strictly it refers to 4 implants in the lower with the back implants tilted back on an angle and immediate loading of these implants with the fixed bridge, a so-called teeth in a day protocol. However it is generically used as a term to describe a metal and acrylic fixed bridge (i.e. teeth you can’t remove) on 4 or 5 implants.

At Woodborough House we offer All-on-4 implants to those who are looking for a quick and easy procedure on dental implants. Dr Nick Fahey will analyse and assess your case and construct All-on-4 dental implants which are specific to your needs. Using SGS software (click to see pic of the All-on-4 using this software), the All-on-4 dental implants can be made accurately and concisely. Many people will find that this is the ideal choice for them, especially if they are in the process of losing their teeth or are currently denture wearers.  In an age where people nowadays have less and less time, this is a great option for suitable candidates.

However, anyone who has an extremely bad grinding habit, uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smokers as well as people who are medically compromised. However, most people can be treated.

Preparing for the All-on-4 procedure

To prepare for this procedure, it’s vital to obtain excellent oral hygiene and stop or minimise smoking altogether.  Post-operative instructions for the All-on-4 dental implant procedure which should be followed include eating a soft diet for 3-4 weeks and careful oral hygiene, as well as antimicrobial and hot salty mouth rinses.

As with any surgery, there are risks involved but these can be minimised with good planning from the outset and use of tools like CBCT and guided surgery.  Repeat dental visits will be required as with any restorations, they require ongoing maintenance just like all kinds of dental work. So therefore ensuring you have good oral health is important to keep the restoration work for a satisfactory period.

Success

The success rate at Woodborough House for the All-on-4 dental implant procedure is 96% which is high and many patients report being thrilled by the results as it helped to increase their confidence and improve their self-esteem, whilst allowing them to eat and smile without the fear of their dentures coming loose or worrying about the appearance of horrible or gappy teeth.

Bridge the gap with All-on-4

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Are you considering dental implants? Why not try ‘All-on-4’? The procedure involves the placement of four dental implants and an immediate fixed acrylic bridge. This treatment is of benefit to anyone who has lots of missing teeth in the upper and lower arches or already has removable dentures. This innovative procedure was first documented by Paulo Malo in Portugal and the ‘All-on-4’ is in reference to the specific type of dental implants used during the procedure. The main difference between the All-on-4 dental implants and that of similar treatments is the immediate loading of the bridge.

Here at Woodborough House dental practice, Specialist Dentist and Prosthodontist Dr Nick Fahey can help you to decide if you are a good candidate for this procedure. To be suitable for this treatment, you will need to have dense enough jawbone and being a non-smoker is also a good start.

You can prepare for the All-on-4 dental implant procedure by cutting down on smoking as well as taking Vitamin C and reducing your alcohol intake if you are consuming more than the government’s recommendation. You should also maintain a well-balanced diet and maintain a good oral hygiene routine at home.

Results

From the feedback received from patients who were treated with the All-on-4 procedure, 95% say they were satisfied. The remaining 5% decided to use All-on-4 as a platform to more sophisticated and costly treatments which included more implants, grafting and porcelain bridges.

With the All-on-4 treatment you can expect to see an immediate cost effective solution to multiple missing teeth. To maintain your All-on-4 dental implants you will need to see a dental hygienist 3-4 times a year. Keeping your mouth healthy and clean will also ensure it remains disease free. Our hygienists at Woodborough are specially trained to care for patients who have implant treatment to ensure their mouths stay disease free.

Risks

As with any surgery, there are always risks and the All-on-4 dental implants procedure is no different. The risks involved are very similar to that of conventional dental implants.

Costs

The costs of these treatments start from about £12,000.

Advantages of ALL-ON- 4 IMPLANTS

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Normally, patients who are looking to replace complete sets of teeth are advised to have between 6 and 10 dental implants. With the revolutionary ALL-on- 4 dental implant system only four implants are required to secure a complete set of dentures

All-on-Four dental implant technique could be the best solution for those who have lost or about to lose all of their upper /lower teeth. With this you can come as close to having a new set of permanent teeth. You   will never have to remove the replacement teeth again for cleaning because their new teeth can be cleaned just like natural teeth.

The other advantage of ALL-ON-4 implants:

  • Requires less time to recover.
  • Reduces overall cost as compared to single implants
  • Possibly eliminates the need for bone grafting.
  • Reinstate the ability to eat all types of foods
  • Ensures long-term results with the potential to last a lifetime
  • Walk away with the smile in a day
  • Shorter treatment time
