Do straight teeth seem like a far away dream? Perhaps you’ve wanted to straighten your crooked, crowded teeth for a while but don’t know how to. For many people the word ‘orthodontics’ or ‘braces’ conjures up all sorts of negative images about wires and metal being attached to the teeth.
Often an experience as a child or teenager is responsible for evoking these responses. Today, however there are many alternatives to the old fashioned ‘train tracks’, and one of the leading treatments in this field is Invisalign.
If you don’t want to make it look obvious that you’re wearing a brace, Invisalign is the choice for you. A market leader in clear aligner orthodontics, state of the art Cad-Cam technology is used to form an impression or digital scan of the teeth, from which a sequence of almost invisible plastic appliances can be produced.
At Woodborough House dental practice, we offer Invisalign to gradually straighten teeth. Designed for consecutive wear they straighten without the need for wires and laborious visits to the orthodontist. It is the most comfortable orthodontic appliance to wear and as it’s removable, you can take it out to eat and drink although it’s recommended you wear it for at least 22 hours a day. It’s virtually impossible to detect and it’s also the healthiest option for the teeth and gums as cleaning and oral hygiene is much simpler than conventional braces.
Choosing to straighten the teeth will not only improve the appearance of your smile but it can also help to slow down the effects of tooth wear and help to correct uncomfortable or damaging bites.
Invisalign is one of the fastest growing dental treatments in the world at the moment and our resident expert, Dr Mark Hughes has treated over 500 cases with Invisalign in the last few years alone. As it’s remarkably easy to wear and the treatment is usually quite simple, the average treatment lengths are from 12 to 18 months, but this can vary greatly, due to individual complexity.
To assess your suitability for Invisalign, we offer a complimentary consultation at Woodborough House – simply call 0118 984 3108. We warmly invite you to come and see how easy it might be to have straight teeth!

Do you think that your choices of having straight teeth are slim? Perhaps you feel that you’ve ‘outgrown’ a visible brace and that metal braces will spoil the way your smile looks, causing social embarrassment during important meetings. Invisalign can be the solution. This orthodontic appliance helps to straighten your teeth using a series of clear, plastic aligners which fit snugly over each set of teeth and so can hardly be seen.
Here at Woodborough House we offer a free initial consultation in which we address your needs and concerns. If you decide to go ahead with treatment, you will come back in to the practice at a later date to have bite impressions made of your teeth. We then send the photos to Invisalign in the United States along with a set of precise instructions. Using advanced 3D computer imaging, a series of clear removable aligners are formed which could encompass as few as 12 or as many as 48 depending on your individual treatment plan.
During treatment
The aligners have to be worn for at least 22 hours a day and are only removed to eat and clean. You must not eat with them in and only water can be drunk while wearing them. To clean them just use a toothbrush and toothpaste and soak them in a solution called Retainer Bright which brightens the aligners. As the aligners are only plastic you must not submerge them in boiling water as this will distort them.
Treatment time should take an average of 18 months but it depends on each individual patient and their expectations.
After treatment
Once treatment is complete a retainer must be worn indefinitely as teeth are always moving and will drift back to their original position if not held by a retainer. There are options for retainers, as you can have a fixed retainer which is a wire cemented behind the teeth or a removable retainer which is just like the Invisalign retainers but stronger.
Invisalign has produced excellent results as even difficult teeth can be moved by attachments being bonded onto the tooth which then acts as a ledge for the aligners to push against to rotate the teeth into line. The attachments are tooth coloured composite which is bonded onto the teeth and just removed at the end of the treatment.
Why Invisalign?
Choosing Invisalign is a great option if you don’t want your teeth to get in the way of your lifestyle. This is because it is virtually invisible and therefore people won’t be able to tell you’re wearing it unless you let them know. It’s also removable so you can still carry out your oral hygiene routine as normal and due to the fact there is no metal or wires involved, you will feel minimal discomfort. The plastic pushes teeth into a different position, which can make the teeth throb, however the feeling is minimal.
Another benefit of Invisalign is that you will have fewer appointments to attend as all the aligners are made at the same time, so a string of aligners can be dispensed to a patient simultaneously, as changing the aligners can be done at home.
No extractions are done either. Instead IPR is carried out, which is an interproximal reduction, where a very small amount of enamel is removed from between the tooth. This helps to create space for the teeth to be straightened and the process is completed within 2-3 minutes and is pain free.
If you’re interested in straightening your smile with Invisalign, why not give us a call on 0118 984 3108 where one of our friendly staff will be more than happy to help.

The Six Month Smiles™ technique employs the latest technology and techniques in cosmetic dentistry to move your teeth quickly and safely. The key components of the treatment are the use of special nickel titanium wires and a primary focus of moving the teeth that show when you smile. Dentists use tooth-colored braces that are barely visible. The wires are usually tooth-colored as well.
There are no more risks of root damage or other issues than those associated with traditional orthodontics. Since the forces used with Six Month Smiles™ braces are lighter and teeth are seldom extracted, there are actually even fewer risks involved with Six Month Smiles™ orthodontics
A revolutionary combination of proven orthodontic techniques, modern materials, and innovative thought - Six Month Smiles utilizes nearly invisible clear braces to gently straighten and align teeth in an average time of just six months.
Get a confident smile with six month braces: safe, quick and affordable!

Our dentist Sen has recently completed a course on Inman Aligners. As he is interested in the appliance and straightening teeth, he took this opportunity to obtain more information and experience in treating patients who want to use an Inman Aligner.
The Inman Aligner is an orthodontic appliance, which offers our patients a faster solution to straighten teeth, without committing to years fixed braces. It is most effective at correcting front teeth.
The Inman Aligner, can in some cases, take just 6 weeks to straighten certain teeth. The Inman Aligner is not as “invisible” as our Invisalign braces, but it has many of the advantages that the Invsialign system has over traditional braces. It is removable so that is doesn’t disturb your eating and oral hygiene. In addition all movements are achieved with a single aligner so there is no need to change your aligners every week. The Inman alighner is also cheaper than conventional fixed braces. We like the sound of that!
We offer a free of charge consultation with either Sen or Mark, so if you are interested in straighting your teeth, Inman Aligner or Invisalign then contact our reception team. They will be more happy to help

Last night the team at WH hosted an event for our referring dentists as a way of thanking them for sending their patients to us for specific treatments. As we have it all under one roof, dentists from all over the county refer their patients to us. Whether they need to see Lama our Periodontist for gum treatment or surgery, Raquel our Endodontist for complex Root Canal treatment, Caroline for anti-wrinkle treatments, or Nick our Prosthodontist for Implants, surgery, crowns, veneers or dentures. We have it all under one roof!
We hosted a James Bond themed night at The Forbury Hotel in Reading, with Martini’s (shaken not stirred) on arrival, food, and the chance to watch a 007 film in their private cinema(popcorn included). It was a great chance to meet up with the dentists, and especially great to put names to faces. The night was great and I hope all enjoyed watching Daniel Craig do his 007 thing. I sure did! We will be holding regular events for our Ivory Club members throughout the year. We love to hear feedback, both positive and negative, regarding our events, and would love to hear any suggestions you may have for the next meeting. Nick and Sarah are also thinking of organising a “study club” for dentists, so i will keep you posted.
The team at Woodborough House would like to thank our colleagues for thinking of us when treating your patients, and thank you for attending our evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

I popped in to Sarah’s surgery today, to see how one of our lovely young patients was getting on with her fixed braces. She works in the village, and has had her braces on for quite a long time now. I actually had mine fixed around the same time as her, so it was a race to the finish line! She has now had them removed and they look fab!! I cant believe what a difference the braces has made to her smile. It may seem like a marathon when you have fixed braces, but the results at the end of the treatment is well worth it. Having fixed braces is a big commitment, and special care needs to be taken when having them on. Good oral hygiene is so important when wearing braces, and making sure you attend all appointments at your orthodontist is also really important. You get to know your orthodontist well as you will be there every 6-8 weeks. She is so pleased with her straighter smile that she has now decided to have them whitened.
If you are interested in having your teeth straightened with either fixed or removable braces, or you would like to have your teeth whitened then please talk to our team.

One of the benefits of working at a dental practice is that we do get the opportunity to have our teeth fixed, whitened and straightened. Today our receptionist Sarah G and our nurse Sara are continuing treatment with Mark to help straighten their teeth, so I thought I would give you a little progress report on how they are getting on. Both girls are getting married this year, so they want the perfect smile to walk down the eisle with. They have both already whitened their teeth, and now they are both wearing Invisalign braces. Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental practitioner.
Sarah G is having what we call in the trade IPR (inter-proximal reduction) today. With Invisalign, in order to make space for teeth that need to move and rotate, small discs and instruments are used to “shave” minimal amounts of enamel off either sides of certain teeth. This makes very small spaces for the teeth to move to their straighter position. Sara has not long had her Invisalign alighners in (she is on week 3) and her appointment today is to have small attachments added to certain teeth. A white composite material is used to help anchor and pull teeth to a new position. They are bearly noticeable! Both our girls are so pleased with the progress so far. See if you can spot them next time you are in, and have a chat with them about Invisalign.
If you are interested in teeth whitening, straightening, Invisalign or even fixed braces please talk to one of our dental professionals. They will be more than happy to help

Today in our lunch hour, we had a rep from Phillips visit us to talk to us about the Sonicare toothbrush range. We like to keep “in the know” at WH so having these regular Continued Professional Development meetings help us keep on track. As professionals, we have to do these CPD hours in order to stay registered with the General Dental Council. There has been a few re-vamps of the Sonicare toothbrush over the years, and although they are more expensive than the other electric toothbrushes on the market, they are definitely worth their weight in gold! I’ve got one, and I wouldn’t be with out it now. There is also a kids range, which is great for those children who are not brushing as they should. It even plays musical notes (its a shame the adult version doesn’as well). The Sonicare toothbrushes are great for those patients with implants, braces, or if they find brushing with a manual toothbrush hard. They are great for those patients who tend to brush hard, as you let the toothbrush do the work. They are also clinically provine to make you teeth whitee. Big wow!!
We have got demo toothbrushes and leaflets if you are interested in them, so please feel free to ask about them. We want to do all we can to keep you smiling.
