I would like to say it came about due to my head turning good looks and smouldering on screen charm but actually my being on television all started with answering a few simple questions for GSK on some of their dental products via an online questionnaire.

Having used Sensodyne myself, I do believe in the brand and I guess that came through in answering the questions. From there I was asked to send in a photo of myself before being invited to a telephone interview. I guess they liked what they saw and heard, as before I knew it they had asked me to come along to some shoots – a very surreal experience indeed.

You can imagine the scene: make-up artists, camera crew, lighting, directors and me, though unfortunately we weren’t in the personal trailer I had been hoping for. Whilst my hair was being gelled up and foundation put on, my very lovely director was briefing me on proceedings;

‘Sen, we are just going to ask you a few questions and we want you to answer them as openly and as honestly as you can.’

There was no script – they just wanted to hear what I had to say about tooth sensitivity and how Sensodyne toothpaste can help, and a couple of hours later, we were done.

That was over 6months ago. I had told very few people about the shoot and we all soon forgot about it. Then many weeks later I remember I was attending an evening at Woodborough House for a series of lectures given by our specialists, when I got an SMS to say that I was going to be used for the commercial and it would start airing the next day! I kept very quiet about it, but the next day my phone went crazy nonetheless with message after message.

‘OMG! Just saw you on TV’

‘Sen were you on TV?’

‘Can I have your autograph please?’

Some people were even looking around their living rooms thinking I had broken in to talk to them about toothpaste when in fact I was just on the TV!

It was a great experience and a lot of fun. Off the back of that, Peter Jackson did call me up and ask me to be in the second of the Hobbit trilogy but Sarah and Nick said I couldn’t have the time off. Ah well, there is always the third one Peter!!

What’s porcelain, perfect and gives years of bonding?

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Christmas is well on its way and what better way to treat yourself or a loved one than with a set of dental veneers. Tailor made to suit your natural teeth, here at Woodborough House we can offer Da Vinci, Lumineers and Macveneers to repair the look of damaged, crooked or discoloured teeth.

A beautiful smile can do wonders for your confidence levels and transform the way people perceive you, which is why when you come to Woodborough House we will assess your case individually. We understand that each case differs from patient to patient and depending on how complex the treatment required is, we will determine the most suitable type of veneers for your teeth.

Different Kinds of Veneers

There are numerous kind of veneers and choosing the ones to suit you is what can be decided upon during a consultation. A popular choice is Lumineers which can be custom made for your teeth. The porcelain is bonded onto the front of the teeth without any ‘grinding’ or ‘shaving’ that many veneers require. However, Lumineers may not be suitable in all cases, so it is up to the discretion of the dentist as to whether to advise them or not.

Mac veneers can be a good choice as they are made with pressed ceramics. Made in the US, Mac veneers are stain resistant so they provide protection for your teeth, and can be matched from the inside to the outer shell of the veneer which ensures as close a colour match as possible.

Da Vinci Veneers are another option you might want to consider. Developed in California, these type of veneers employ a thin sheet of porcelain that adheres to each tooth, and once treated, mould perfectly to teeth to help enhance your smile. The veneer will be designed to match and compliment the hue of your teeth, making them look very natural.

Dr Mark Hughes specialises in all of the above veneers and uses them mostly at the Harley Street Dental Studio practice.  Mark collaborates with Dr Nick Fahey to offer these treatments to Woodborough House patients. Dr Nick Fahey, Woodborough House practice owner prefers to use porcelain veneers and utilises one of the best technicians in Europe to see the job done.

Prices for veneers are as follows; Lumineers from £500 per unit, Da Vinci from £700 per unit, Mac veneers start from £900 and veneers with Nick start from £950.

Do you long for a ‘perfect’ celebrity smile? Porcelain veneers may be the answer. They are thin custom-made shells designed to cover the front side of teeth. Made of tooth-coloured materials, they are used to treat spaces between teeth and teeth that are chipped or worn, permanently stained, poorly shaped or slightly crooked.

Here at Woodborough House we offer a range of leading porcelain veneers, including; bespoke veneers made by the very best technicians, Da Vinci veneers, Cerinate Lumineers and Macveneers.

Each case differs from patient to patient depending on how complex their treatment is and which type of veneer the patient and dentist think is most suitable. For patients interested in having dental veneers, we offer a consultation appointment where individual suitability for veneers is discussed, the procedure explained in detail, and an estimate of the cost of the treatment is provided.

Da Vinci veneers are developed in California and employ a thin sheet of porcelain that adheres to each tooth and, once treated, mould perfectly to enhance your smile. The veneer will match and compliment the hue of your teeth, making them look incredibly natural.

Cerinate Lumineers are porcelain veneers, custom-made for your teeth. The porcelain is bonded onto the front of your teeth without any ‘grinding’ or ‘shaving’ that many veneers require.

Macveneers are the preferred choice in porcelain veneers among many celebrities and public figures. They are made with pressed ceramics so are stain resistant and provide added protection for your teeth. Colour matching is applied all the way from the inside to the outer shell of the veneer, to provide you with the closest colour match possible. All our Macveneers are made in the U.S.

At Woodborough House, cosmetic dentist Dr Mark Hughes specialises in all the above veneers and uses them mostly at the Harley Street Dental Studio.

Dr Nick Fahey prefers to use porcelain veneers and uses one of the best technician’s in Europe. He also specialises in advanced cosmetic dentistry as well as fixed and removable prosthodontics.

One dental technician we use is Rob, the owner and lead technician at Ken Poland’s Dental Laboratory. He has collaborated with us on cases for over 10 years. In our opinion Rob is one of the best technicians in England and provides treatment for only a few select clients. His work has been featured on such UK reality television shows as “10 Years Younger”.

We also use Nicky, from Precision Dental Studio near Newbury, for those patients who wish to have a more local laboratory to visit for their shade taking appointments. Nicky has a wonderful eye for aesthetics and produces beautifully handcrafted individual teeth for her clients.

Prices for the veneers start with Lumineers at around £500 per unit, Da Vinci veneers from £700 per unit and MacVeneers from £900 per unit. Veneers with Nick start from £950 per unit.

How Veneers Can help you?

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Veneers are hand crafted porcelain coverings that normally go over the front surface of the tooth. They usually require minimal preparation of your tooth and are permanently bonded onto the tooth. With this treatment, it’s possible to transform crooked, stained, damaged or badly worn teeth into a brand new, straight, white smile.

In cosmetic dentistry veneers  are considered to be best solutions for the following:

Chipped teeth: As veneers cover the whole front surface of the tooth, we can straighten and even out your smile.

Crooked teeth: Veneers are most commonly used to change the shape of your teeth and straighten your smile. Inman Aligner and Invisalign could be alternate options.

Gaps between teeth: spaces or gaps between your teeth can easily be closed using dental veneers, giving you beautiful smile. You would normally require a few veneers but this would be possible

Unwanted position of your teeth: Veneers can change the shape and position of your teeth at the same time.

Stained teeth – Sometimes badly stained teeth cannot be improved by teeth whitening.  Here dental veneers can help, which function to cover any existing stains on your teeth.

For all the above scenarios there are different options available. We would discuss all options so that you can take an informed choice.
