Need a hand to turn back time?

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

If you’re looking to turn the clock back this Christmas, facial rejuvenation techniques may hold the answer.  Youth is highly prized in today’s image conscious society so it’s no surprise that most people will find themselves thinking about how to reverse the ageing process by removing a few lines here and there.

Facial rejuvenation techniques are the ideal option for those considering non-surgical means of enhancing their looks.  At Woodborough House, we offer these treatments courtesy of Dr Caroline Hewitt, BSc FRCP who is a Dermatologist and Aesthetic Practitioner. In a friendly one on one consultation, Dr Hewitt will assess your needs as an individual and advise you on how to improve your look; anything from correcting one line to many and as a qualified practitioner, Caroline will be able to advise you as to the personal benefits of undergoing these treatments.

Treatments

We offer a range of facial rejuvenation techniques in the practice and these include the use of the botulinum toxin, Restylane and Juvederm.

Prior to treatment, it is worth doing your own research if you are at all unsure about going ahead with any of the procedures to know about the side effects, costs and any follow-ups that may be required. The botulinum toxin is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of the wrinkles and unsightly facial lines that are caused by over activity of facial muscles (eg: frown lines, horizontal forehead furrows and “crow’s feet” around the eyes). However, patients with too many lines may find that surgery is a better option for them.

The side effects of these treatments are minimal, almost always reversible and are reported in only around 1% of patients. These side effects can include bruising, swelling, mild pain and a headache. It’s important that adequate aftercare is carried out after the procedure and patients who have been injected with the botulinum toxin refrain from touching the treated area for 3-4 hours.

There is a difference between the botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. The former relaxes the muscles whereas the fillers fill and plump up lines wrinkles and grooves to make skin look more youthful.

Expectations

For those considering treatment with the botulinum toxin, it is worth having realistic outcomes and expectations about the procedure. A good way to prepare is to read about all the products and ask the practitioner before treatment if you are at all unsure about anything or have lots of questions. Remember that repeat treatments will be required if you want to maintain the correction, with the botulinum toxin usually lasting for 3-6 months (some shorter, some longer) and fillers lasting for 6-9 months in general.

Most patients who’ve received facial rejuvenation techniques with us have said they love it and are taken care of well and having the treatment has been made in excellent thanks to the good hands at Woodborough House.

Fill me up!

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

It’s one thing we all have in common……..we are all going to age. Yes, it is very depressing that we start to look less youthful, and our skin will become dull and lifeless but there is a way of perking yourself up. Here at Woodborough House, we have a fully qualified Dermatologist who treats patients who are interested in Dermal Fillers. Unlike other facial rejuvenation treatments, Dermal Fillers will fill the line or crease that is there rather than paralyze the muscle.

Yesterday we had a visit from our Restylane representative. Restylane is the gel based Dermal Filler that Caroline uses. Its a great product, and you may have heard of it in the media, magazines, or makeover programmes. The word on the street is Gordon Ramsey has used it!

Now for the scientific part………. Restylane is made of Hyaluronic Acid. We all naturally produce Hyaluronic acid in our bodies. At a certain age, the body stops producing HA and thats what gives our skin the signs of ageing. By using Restylane Fillers, it can give the skin  volume, and the youthful  natural look it had before. Dermal Fillers will last for about 9-12 months so if you want to maintain the fresh faced look, a trip back to the Dermatologist will be needed. The product can be used in a number of areas: forehead, frown lines, lipstick bleed lines, cheek augmentation and jaw line. It is also used as a hydration product. It can help repair sun damaged skin, thinning of the skin and even ageing hands! The product is very safe when treated by qualified dermatologists, and has a safety track running over 14 years.

Of course, I look youthful enough not to have needed the treatment, but some of the girls are lining themselves up for a session (I know they won’t mind me telling you that)! If you are interested in Restylane products or would like to know more about Dermal Fillers then please ring our Team. They would be more than happy to provide you with information or litrature ;-)

Shaken not stirred.

Last night the team at WH hosted an event for our referring dentists as a way of thanking them for sending their patients to us for specific treatments. As we have it all under one roof, dentists from all over the county refer their patients to us. Whether they need to see Lama our Periodontist for gum treatment or surgery, Raquel our Endodontist for complex Root Canal treatment, Caroline for anti-wrinkle treatments, or Nick our Prosthodontist for Implants, surgery, crowns, veneers or dentures. We have it all under one roof!

We hosted a James Bond themed night at The Forbury Hotel in Reading, with Martini’s (shaken not stirred) on arrival, food, and the chance to watch a 007 film in their private cinema(popcorn included). It was a great chance to meet up with the dentists, and especially great to put names to faces. The night was great and I hope all enjoyed watching Daniel Craig do his 007 thing. I sure did! We will be holding regular events for our Ivory Club members throughout the year. We love to hear feedback, both positive and negative, regarding our events, and would love to hear any suggestions you may have for the next meeting. Nick and Sarah are also thinking of organising a “study club” for dentists, so i will keep you posted.

The team at Woodborough House would like to thank our colleagues for thinking of us when treating your patients, and thank you for attending our evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Coming soon to Woodborough House is our new dermatologist Caroline.  Caroline will be offering anti-wrinkle treatments which work by refining your appearance with an injectable substance. When the anti-wrinkle treatment is injected into the wrinkles, the treatment proceeds to relax the muscles of the injected area, smoothing the skin. We are also offering other dermalogical fillers including Restylane and Isolagen.  For more information please get in touch or read about our demalogical procedures through our ”Treatments’ toolbar.  At Woodborough House we keep you smiling………. AND keep you looking younger!
