Would you love a smile that’s fit for the crown?

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Are you after a dazzling, white smile like Kate Middleton? The ‘ideal’ of a bright, beautiful looking straight smile is one that most people dream of. Not only is it easy on the eye, but can also really help to transform your teeth into a royal, winning smile. Best of all, it can be created to look as natural as possible.

Here at Woodborough House we use leading cosmetic makeover technologies and techniques to transform your smile. From whitening to implants, dentures to crowns and bridges, our skilled team of cosmetic dentists and our specialist prosthodontist (Dr Nick Fahey) are here to help you make the most of your natural features and transform your smile.

Dental Bonding

In some cases, teeth whitening alone cannot resurrect a beautiful smile. At Woodborough House we use the latest dental bonding techniques to professionally repair slight cracks and chips, and to conceal troublesome stains on your teeth. This is achieved by coating the teeth with a thin layer of composite resin, which is carefully colour-matched to the natural hue of your teeth. As the composite resin hardens, our clinicians skilfully sculpt it to evenly cover and fill any damaged areas. This can be completed in one visit to the practice, and is a cost-effective way to achieve the smile you want.

Porcelain crowns

Woodborough House is committed to maintaining the highest standards in amalgam-free dentistry. As part of this, we offer high quality all porcelain crowns to patients with severely damaged teeth. Before the placement of any porcelain crown we remove the damaged portion of your tooth and reshape the remaining part so it is the perfect fit for your new crown. An adhesive is then used to fit the crown securely to your tooth. The new crown can be matched to your natural tooth colour to ensure it looks and feels like a natural part of your mouth.

This procedure includes 2 visits to the practice, and can last 10-15 years.

Dental Bridges

Woodborough House can also provide patients with dental bridges if you are missing one or more teeth and do not wish to be treated with dental implants. Missing teeth can promote a general weakening of the jaw structure as teeth often shift to compensate for the gap, so it’s important to ensure any potential movement is minimized through the installation of a dental bridge. Using only the finest ceramic materials, our dental bridges are created to look and feel as natural as possible.

Amalgam-free fillings

Traditional amalgam-based silver fillings can often corrode and leak, staining the filling and in many instances giving the tooth an unsightly ‘black’ appearance. Today, amalgam-free fillings are growing in popularity due to both the aesthetic and health value and at Woodborough House we offer a full range of amalgam-free filling options that also blend more naturally with the colour of your teeth. We also offer an amalgam removal and disposal service and follow strict protocol established by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology to ensure the total safety of both our patients and staff.

Dentures

Using the latest advances in computer-imaging technology, at Woodborough House, we are able to create your new dentures one tooth at a time. We begin by designing a digital portrait of what the finished product will look like. From this digital imagery, we design then create your dentures. We blend and fashion each tooth so it fits as perfectly and naturally as possible. We work hard to ensure that every step of the process is as precise as possible, to give you absolute confidence and a stunning set of new dentures that look just like real teeth.

If these cosmetic dental procedures sound like a great way to enhance your smile in terms of a smile makeover, why not give us a call on 0118 984 3108 where one of our staff will be happy to help you book an appointment.

Happy New Year and Congratulations!

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Hello to all our followers and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great time over the festive period. I would like to start another year of blogging, by saying a very BIG congratulations to one of our team members Sara. Sara, one of our nurses, got married on the 29th December. She looked amazing on the day. She even had her teeth straighted by Mark Hughes our cosmetic dentist, using Invisalign. This meant she had the perfect smile for her big day.

From all the Team at Woodborough House we want to wish Sara and her husband best wishes and happiness for the future

I’m a celeb…… and I’ve got white teeth!

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

You know its that time of the year again….Christmas is coming. It creeps up every year with out a warning, and every year we struggle with what to get our loved ones. Well we have a solution…… Woodborough House Home Tooth Whitening Kit. I sat at home at the weekend, bombarded with talent shows and celebs making fools of themselves in the jungle for hideous amounts of money, and the only think I notice (although I am in the profession) is their sparkly white teeth. Well if they can do it, we can.

The home bleaching kit is great and easy to use. All the girls at WH have done it so if you want to chat to somebody about how it works, and what you have to do, then please ask them. They will be more than willing to help

Blown away by iTero

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Yes I know. I keep banging on about iTero but…………….. ITS GREAT! The dentists at WH are now all fighting to use it. Nick was scanning 2 patients yesterday, and then Sarah was fighting for it in between.

We are starting to notice (now that we know how to use it) exactly the kind of things it can do to help us and our patients. Yesterday, we had a lovely lady who is having some extensive cosmetic work done with Nick. She has only a few teeth left in the upper jaw, and between having teeth extracted and implants placed, we needed to make her a temporary bridge. We have tried the conventional temporary bridge, but we keep having breaks and it becomes loose, as there such a large space it has to fill. But no fear……. iTero is here! Good old ”Lucy Laser” as the girls at WH have come to name her, was able to scan the remaining teeth in the upper jaw, soft tissues and areas where there are missing teeth. With this cad-cam information, the laboratory is then able to make us a much stronger temporary bridge. The patient is happy. We are happy.

We are so excited about the new technology and we love to talk to our patients about it. We are very proud to have this amazing software at Woodborough House and will be using it now and in the future to help make our patients smile one to be proud of.

If you are interested in iTero or would like to know if this technology is suitable for you, please talk to one of our team.

iTero is here… and running like a dream!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I blogged on this a while back now, but we are officially up and running with the iTero technology here at WH. In fact, some of the dentist are getting quite competitive. Sen is actually top of the list for dentists that have cases using iTero! Well done Sen. The heat is on now guys.

The iTero technology is an absolute magnificent “piece of kit”. iTero is a revolutionary new technique, which is used to create dental impressions. iTero technology uses digital 3D images of the patient’s mouth, rather than dental trays and putty and can be used to create a range of different dental devices. We all know how much patients dislike those putty impressions! By using the 3D images, iTero creates a much accurate impression of the patients tooth, or teeth, making the fit of the new crown perfect.

iTero technology is set to revolutionise the way dentists create dental impressions. The new technique will reduce time in the dentist’s chair, improve accuracy, reduce mess and eliminate the need for further appointments. Anything to make our patients journey at WH easier and less traumatic for them, is a bonus for us. We are very lucky to have the iTero scanner here at WH.

If you would like to know more about iTero then check out our website, or speak with our dental team. They will be more than willing to help.

Straighten up!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Our dentist Sen has recently completed a course on Inman Aligners. As he is interested in the appliance and straightening teeth, he took this opportunity to obtain more information and experience in treating patients who want to use an Inman Aligner.

The Inman Aligner is an orthodontic appliance, which offers our patients a faster solution to straighten teeth, without committing to years fixed braces. It is most effective at correcting front teeth.

The Inman Aligner, can in some cases, take just 6 weeks to straighten certain teeth. The Inman Aligner is not as “invisible” as our Invisalign braces, but it has many of the advantages that the Invsialign system has over traditional braces. It is removable so that is doesn’t disturb your eating and oral hygiene. In addition all movements are achieved with a single aligner so there is no need to change your aligners every week. The Inman alighner is also cheaper than conventional fixed braces. We like the sound of that!

We offer a free of charge consultation with either Sen or Mark, so if you are interested in straighting your teeth, Inman Aligner or Invisalign then contact our reception team. They will be more happy to help :-)

The Itero challenge begins…..

Friday, July 30th, 2010

It was an exciting day for us when the new Itero machine arrived at the practice. We all wanted to have a play and get our mitts on the new scanner!

Our reps from Straumann came to introduce us to our new gadget, and spent the day with us explaining how the Itero works and how to use it. It really is quite fantastic, and I don’t think any of us quite expecting how hi-tech and amazing this machine is. When it came to using the machine, we all had to be trained how we use it, how we capture images of the teeth, and how these images can then produce 3D models of the patients teeth and soft tissues. We were all guinea pigs for the day, because in order to train how to use it, we needed to practice on each other. I personally took this opportunity to get my own back on Sen………………only kidding. It took some getting used to, but I think we all got the hang of it in the end. Obviously as we are new to this, it took us longer to complete scans than usual. The rep promised us that eventually, this will become second nature, and our scans will be quick once we have mastered it. She even showed us a clip on YouTube of a dentist in America, who has had the iTero for some time, who completely a full scan of a patients quadrant in 1 minute 9 secs!! That’s it……………….. the heat is on. My mission now is to beat that record :-)

Gossip from the pits

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Yesterday, me and Sen were pleased to see in our diary that we were getting a visit from our patient that works in the pits at Formula 1. We haven’t seen him since Sarah treated him with new front anterior crowns, so were interested to see how he was getting on. He was in fine form, and the front crowns were still looking fab! In fact, he mentioned to us that he has been receiving many compliments, especially from the ladies, because of his sparkly new teeth. He was in for his routine examination and for a hygiene visit and it was great to catch up on all the gossip about his travels and time spent working with the Formula 1 Team.

A new bit of kit.

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

We are all very excited at Woodborough House, as we have a new bit of kit coming to the practice! We have many patients in the dental chair having treatment that requires us to take impressions using putty materials and alginate. We all know this is not much fun. Its especially difficult for patients that have a bad gag reflex or find it stressful having dental impressions taken. It is also an invasive procedure. Well don’t fear……………… Itero is here!!

The Itero is a scanning device that enables us to take accurate dental records and impressions. Itero features parallel confocal imaging which uses laser and optical scanning to digitally capture the surface and contours of the tooth and gingival structures. An accurate impression is the foundation of an accurate study model required for effective treatment planning. After scanning, the machine gives us 3D images to help with treatment planning, crown preperations,  and orthodontic treatment.  Its also a great way for patients to see their dental work on a screen.

Woodborough House is very excited to be able to use this pioneering equipment, and to be one of the first in the UK to have one. No more goop, gagging or discomfort! That is something to be proud of ;-)

Something to smile about

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Phew. It has definitely been “one of those days” today! The waiting room was buzzing, the phones kept ringing, and all the team were hard at work all day.

Me and Sen was treating a patient that we have been seeing for some time now. He came to see us at the beginning of the year with his girlfriend, and presented us with a very difficult case. He had several missing teeth, and needed some extensive work doing. Sen sat down with Nick, to get his professional advice on Dental Implants and Dentures, and discussed what treatment plan would be best suited to this patient. Since then, the patient came in to see us and announced that he was getting married. Yay! Now the pressure was on!

The patient was embarressed by his smile, as he had missing teeth, decay and discoulored teeth. As Dental Implants are an investment and the “Rolls Royce” of dental treatment, our patient needed something to get him through to his wedding day. He needed to have his smile back! By working with our laboratory, getting various study models and diagnostic wax models made up of what the teeth should look like, we were able to provide our patient with a new set of teeth. Now ,the teeth we made are only a temporary measure as the patient is getting married, but what a difference a few hours in the dental chair made! He walked out of WH with a brand new smile. It was all a bit alien to him as he had gone so long with no teeth, and smiling just was not something he naturally did, but he was very pleased with the result. He actually said to me “its the missus you got to impress, not me”. Lets hope she was pleased with the results aswell :-)

If you are suffering from broken teeth, missing teeth, or you would like some more information about full mouth reconstructions  or Dental Implants then please talk to one of our team. They will be more than willing to help.
