Are your perfect teeth arriving on time?

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Are you looking to straighten your teeth as quickly and efficiently as possible? Perhaps you have a wedding or a special occasion coming up and you want to show off your straight smile, but in the meantime it’s looking less than perfect. Don’t want to spend years wearing a brace? Then the Inman Aligner could be for you!

At Woodborough House, we offer the Inman Aligner as an orthodontic appliance to help quickly move your teeth into the right direction and to cosmetically enhance the appearance of your smile. Our dentists are certified users of the Inman Aligner and have a lot of experience working with the device, which means they have done extensive training to be able to prescribe the aligner.

What is the Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is a discrete removable brace which you can take in and out. It is used to produce minor tooth movements, making it ideal for use on the front of your teeth.  The Inman Aligner can be removed before eating, drinking or brushing/flossing your teeth.

Anyone who requires a minor rotation on the teeth or which may need some tipping or tilting of their front six teeth can wear the Inman Aligner to achieve an enhanced smile.

Why is the Inman Aligner so fast?

The Inman Aligner works very quickly and typical treatment times can be completed in around 6 months, but the effects of the teeth straightening can be seen much faster – usually within a few weeks or so in the right cases.

Why choose the Inman Aligner?

The great thing about the Inman Aligner is that it’s removable, which means it can be taken in and out at will. The fact that it’s cost effective and works relatively quickly is also a winning factor when it comes to choosing the right orthodontic device.

Results

Patients can expect to see great results from using the Inman Aligner. This includes any mild crowding in their front six teeth being completely aligned.

Advice

Everyone will be different, so see your local Inman provider to see if you are a suitable case. If so, then wear it as much as you can for the duration of your treatment time. Remember,  don’t look back – look forward to your new life and your newly straight smile!

Can you keep a six month secret?

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

This girl is wearing braces. You’d hardly be able to tell by looking at her that she is undergoing orthodontic treatment. That is because she is wearing Six Month Smiles braces, an orthodontic system which uses fixed translucent brackets and wires which are designed to straighten the front six teeth in each arch. It is ideally suited to patients who have crowded front teeth and only want these straightened.

At Woodborough House we offer the Six Month Smiles as an alternative to traditional braces because of its effectiveness at correcting front teeth, its translucency which makes it discrete in the mouth and its fast and effective approach to teeth straightening.

Is Six Month Smiles noticeable?

As Six Month Smiles uses the latest developments and techniques in dentistry to move teeth quickly and safely, you can feel assured that they look nothing like metal braces. Due to the tooth coloured braces being barely visible and the wires being tooth coloured, no one will be able to tell you are wearing them either. The key components of the treatment are the special nickel titanium wires which focus on helping the teeth in your smile line to move.

Six Month Smiles are also more comfortable than regular braces as they use a low force to move the teeth in a way which is comfortable. This works in contrast to what some people believe in regard to accelerated treatment meaning a tighter set of braces to get the teeth moving. This is not the case with Six Month Smiles.  The latest advances in orthodontic mechanics are utilised with this appliance so that the emphasis is on enhancing the cosmetic appearance of your teeth, rather than the position of your bite.

Once you have been fitted for the appliance, you will have to come into the dental practice every 4-5 weeks for a check-up and to ensure the braces are in the correct position.

Is it permanent?

As with any kind of orthodontics, post treatment retention is essential to prevent your teeth moving back to their original position. Therefore after treatment is complete the patient can either wear a removable clear aligner or a bonded wire which is fitted onto the back of teeth.

Ultimately you should find that Six Month Smiles is a great alternative to conventional braces, whilst providing a safe, quick and pain free way of moving your teeth to help give you the smile that you’ve always wanted.

Only the invisible man can see your aligners!

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Do you think that your choices of having straight teeth are slim? Perhaps you feel that you’ve ‘outgrown’ a visible brace and that metal braces will spoil the way your smile looks, causing social embarrassment during important meetings. Invisalign can be the solution. This orthodontic appliance helps to straighten your teeth using a series of clear, plastic aligners which fit snugly over each set of teeth and so can hardly be seen.

Here at Woodborough House we offer a free initial consultation in which we address your needs and concerns. If you decide to go ahead with treatment, you will come back in to the practice at a later date to have bite impressions made of your teeth. We then send the photos to Invisalign in the United States along with a set of precise instructions. Using advanced 3D computer imaging, a series of clear removable aligners are formed which could encompass as few as 12 or as many as 48 depending on your individual treatment plan.

During treatment

The aligners have to be worn for at least 22 hours a day and are only removed to eat and clean. You must not eat with them in and only water can be drunk while wearing them. To clean them just use a toothbrush and toothpaste and soak them in a solution called Retainer Bright which brightens the aligners. As the aligners are only plastic you must not submerge them in boiling water as this will distort them.

Treatment time should take an average of 18 months but it depends on each individual patient and their expectations.

After treatment

Once treatment is complete a retainer must be worn indefinitely as teeth are always moving and will drift back to their original position if not held by a retainer. There are options for retainers, as you can have a fixed retainer which is a wire cemented behind the teeth or a removable retainer which is just like the Invisalign retainers but stronger.

Invisalign has produced excellent results as even difficult teeth can be moved by attachments being bonded onto the tooth which then acts as a ledge for the aligners to push against to rotate the teeth into line.  The attachments are tooth coloured composite which is bonded onto the teeth and just removed at the end of the treatment.

Why Invisalign?

Choosing Invisalign is a great option if you don’t want your teeth to get in the way of your lifestyle. This is because it is virtually invisible and therefore people won’t be able to tell you’re wearing it unless you let them know. It’s also removable so you can still carry out your oral hygiene routine as normal and due to the fact there is no metal or wires involved, you will feel minimal discomfort. The plastic pushes teeth into a different position, which can make the teeth throb, however the feeling is minimal.

Another benefit of Invisalign is that you will have fewer appointments to attend as all the aligners are made at the same time, so a string of aligners can be dispensed to a patient simultaneously, as changing the aligners can be done at home.

No extractions are done either. Instead IPR is carried out, which is an interproximal reduction, where a very small amount of enamel is removed from between the tooth. This helps to create space for the teeth to be straightened and the process is completed within 2-3 minutes and is pain free.

If you’re interested in straightening your smile with Invisalign, why not give us a call on 0118 984 3108 where one of our friendly staff will be more than happy to help.

Brace yourself for that beautiful smile

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Do you avoid smiling for fear of your crooked or crowded teeth? Perhaps you worry about how it looks when you smile, but are feeling uncertain of how to fix it. You know that braces would probably be the answer, but you don’t want to have to wear ‘train tracks’ or a mouth full of metal for fear of embarrassment.

The Inman Aligner is an orthodontic appliance which can help. It straightens teeth by a bar which sits either side of teeth, asserting pressure to straighten them. It is ideal for simple cases, but an orthodontist will be able to confirm your suitability. The advantage of this form of orthodontics is that it quickly moves teeth and it is also removable, so you won’t have to wear it on a night out or on special occasions if you don’t want to.

Very good results have been seen as a result of using the Inman Aligner, particularly with correcting front teeth.  Many patients have also found the Inman Aligner to be less painful than fixed orthodontic appliances which create that ‘train track’ effect. Other benefits of the appliance include less appointments because the Inman Aligner is a removable appliance, which in turn also makes it easier to clean your teeth.

Preparation

You can prepare for this treatment, as with any kind of orthodontics, by carrying out a good dental hygiene regime to ensure your oral hygiene is excellent. An appointment with a hygienist is also advised every 3 months whilst you are in treatment.

A lot of people fear a brace will restrict their everyday activities. Whilst the Inman Aligner has to be removed during eating, it can however be left in whilst you are drinking.

Risks

There are small risks involved with any form of teeth straightening treatment. With the Inman Aligner it can feel slightly uncomfortable whilst the teeth are moving, this is due to the slight mobility of the teeth whilst in treatment. Gaps can also form between teeth which are like little black triangles, this is where the gum can recede a little, creating a ‘black triangle’ effect.

Long term results

As with any brace, teeth are prone to relapse if a retainer isn’t worn. A retainer must be worn for life, otherwise the teeth will revert back to their original position, otherwise known as a relapse. This can be fixed permanently and bonded onto the back of the teeth or a removable retainer can be worn, reducing to nightly wear after a certain period of time.

Here at Woodborough House, Dr Mark Hughes is the primary cosmetic dentist who can help to determine if the Inman Aligner is the right choice of orthodontic treatment for you. If you’re interested, please give us a call on 0118 984 3108 to book a consultation.
