AquaCutQuattro

As you know, we like to keep up to date with the latest and most progressive technology in dentistry, and when Sarah and L’ren attended the whitening seminar back in January, Sarah did just that.

We have a new piece of equipment called the Aquacut Quattro. This may sound a little scary to start with, but it is a fabulous piece of equipment which can be used alongside a variety of treatments. The Aquacut Quattro is an Air Abrasion and polishing machine and is primarily used to remove staining on teeth.

Air abrasion kits in the past have been a rather messy affair. They use a special kind of sand that is completely safe for use in the mouth. This sand is squirted directly on the tooth, which in the past tended to go everywhere, resulting in an unpleasant experience for everyone involved, especially the patient, as it can be a bit gritty.

This, however, is not the case with the Aquacut Quattro; the sand is squirted in a contained manner with minimal mess and discomfort for the patient.

As you can imagine, Sarah and the hygienist are really excited about this machine!!

The Aquacut Quattro can not only be used for polishing and removing stains from teeth. The ‘Sylc’ product used when polishing teeth also desensitises, therefore making stain removal a pain-free experience. Along with this, it can also be used for preparing teeth for treatments that involve using a bonding technique, such as fillings and crown fits.

The Air abrasion part of the machine provides a minimally invasive way of creating a stronger bond surface, as the sand squirted makes the tooth’s surface a little like sandpaper and gives the glue something to stick to.

It is great for adding fissure sealants to children’s teeth or filling in small cavities with early decay. These areas in the mouth can often be very smooth and therefore, even with the very best tooth bonding agents, can easily come away. It would be a bit like having a non-stick baking pan; everything should come away from it easy however if you have an old, well-used baking pan, ingredients stick to it with a lot more ease.

The best bit about this is that there is no need for an injection; it is completely pain-free and minimally invasive. This allows minimal intervention to be needed and as always, prevention is better than cure.
