Hi, my name is Karen and I am the Business Manager here at Woodborough House in Pangbourne!  Firstly, I hear you ask, “what does a Business Manager do and why is it different to a Practice Manager?”  Well, we are quite a complex and busy dental practice. After Sarah and Nick bought the practice in 2006 and things started to change, they decided to set up a three-man (actually three-women :)) management team, so we could each focus on key areas of the business: Clinical, Financial and Business.

Our Clinical Manager, Cathy, focuses on the patient needs and is responsible for the nursing team and clinical service we provide to all our patients. Our Finance Manager, Sam, focuses on the business investment and costs by running a tight ship to make sure we provide the best patient care at the best prices (she also runs payroll so we love her loads!).  So that leaves me and I make sure we have clear and precise procedures behind the scenes.  I also make sure we are fully compliant with all the relevant Medical Regulations set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), that we have all the right insurances and training in place and that generally when we open the doors for business we are ready for patients. We are also supported by Jim, our fabulous IT Consultant, who makes sure all our computer technology is up-to-date and works, so we can be ready to take phone calls and book appointments when required, amongst many other things we all do for our patients.

There is no such thing as a typical day for me at Woodborough House. Every day is different and has its own challenges and rewards. Actually, that’s what I love about it – as they say, “variety is the spice of life”…
