Treating Your Dental Phobia

If you’re someone that puts off going to the dentist because of anxiety, you’re not alone. We’ve helped countless nervous patients feel at ease while undergoing treatment, and we’d like to help you.

Not only are we sympathetic to the fact that many people have genuine fears and anxieties associated with receiving dental care, but we’ll actively work with you to allay your concerns and provide you with the service you need – at your own pace.

At Woodborough House Dental Practice, it’s not just the teeth or gum that we treat, it’s the person. Our team of Dental Phobia Certified experts are specialists in providing calming, reassuring, and relaxed care to everyone.

Understanding Your Fears

Our specially designed Nervous Patient Programme is tailored around you. We want to know exactly what your concerns are before we begin any kind of treatment so that we can make the necessary adjustments to accommodate your needs.

Everyone’s worries and doubts are unique to them, and we won’t ever assume we know what you’re feeling or experiencing. We believe that listening to you should be central to your care.

The Wand

Dental discomfort can undo the work we do to understand and reassure you. For that reason, we use a computerised system called The Wand to provide pain-free injections, delivering precisely the right amount of anaesthetic without the need for scary needles.

Traditionally, a numbing local anaesthetic would be administered to the entire side of the mouth where treatment was due to take place. This leads to difficulties eating and speaking post-treatment. The Wand overcomes this by honing in on the specific tooth that’s being treated, leading to a more comfortable experience overall.

Not only is The Wand precise, but it is also fast-acting. This means less time in the dental chair.

Sedation

To help you relax fully, we offer dental sedation. Typically, you’ll be awake throughout the entirety of your treatment, however, you won’t feel a thing. We’ll use carefully controlled doses of IV sedatives to precisely manage your comfort levels.

While sedated, you’ll have an awareness of what’s going on around you and you’ll be able to interact with us and understand what we’re saying to you. If needed, we can continually adjust the dose you receive.

Following the procedure, you’ll have very little recollection of the experience.

Treatment at Your Pace

In addition to providing you with sedation and pain-free injections courtesy of The Wand, we’ll work at your pace. We believe that dentistry should never be rushed anyway, but we want to get your care just right.

If you’re uncomfortable with anything during your treatment, let us know and we’ll work with you to move past this.
